Dragonchain - Interview with CEO Joe Roets

in #dragonchain7 years ago (edited)

I recently read a few articles about Dragonchain and found it a fascinating project.
They’re well organized and offer lots of information in the website, architecture page and whitepaper.
Website: https://dragonchain.com/
Architecture: https://dragonchain.github.io/architecture
Whitepaper: https://dragonchain.com/assets/Dragonchain_Business_Summary.pdf

Here's the introductory video about it on YouTube:

Particularly the team and the backup by Disney looks very promising, but how much is Disney still involved? To find out, I contacted Mr. Joe Roets, CEO of Dragonchain and he allowed me to post the answers to several of my questions to steemit. Here are my questions and answers by Mr. Joe Roets.

I’ve come across the website of Dragonchain. I’m enticed by the name of Disney and like the first impression. However, I have some questions that I couldn’t find in the website or whitepaper.
Question 1. Do I correctly conclude that you provide a B2B solution to companies that want to implement blockchain technology, but have limited resources towards such a project?

Yes, B2B, but we are focused solely on those with limited resources. We are making the development of blockchain applications less risky and more flexible.

Question 2. How do you find companies that want to use your services, or how do they find you?

So far, they've found us. Typically from news articles. Often word of mouth.
We're actually modeling the incubator such that anyone can apply with a project idea.

Question 3. Can you count on the support of Disney in one way or another?

We are the original Disney blockchain team - Disney approved the team to open source the code, and we promised to support and grow the community. Disney has supported the project from the start, and have been very helpful in their feedback on projects and capabilities. The company and its people have been amazing to us and to the open source project, and the Dragonchain team is eternally grateful!

Question 4. The whitepaper doesn’t include a timeline and the website says “2018: Full Platform and Incubator roll out”. Do you have more detailed timeline?

Yes, and we are preparing to publish very soon.

Question 5. On the website it says “business ready platform”. How much was tested?

Everything in the open source codebase, and components that have yet to be released.

Question 6. I read the concept of “context based verification” or "blockchain of blockchains", but fail to find the purpose of it. Do I correctly assume that this answers the problem of security described in page 3? I have problems to get my head around this concept, can you describe an example?

Source: https://dragonchain.github.io/architecture

This is difficult to answer in a short manner. Please read the verification and consensus section of the architecture document https://dragonchain.github.io/architecture#verification-and-consensus. It speaks of the actual design. A use example would be in the acceptance of data. That is, if I subscribe to a feed of a subset of your data, and you explicitly authorize it, I will be able to specify that I don't see that data show up on the feed until it has reached a particular consensus level.
I can also specify that I won't accept or use data from the feed unless a certain amount of PoW hashpower from BTC has been applied. The “blockchain of blockchains” is in regard to the fact that each level 1 business node has its own blockchain.

Question 7. Will you focus on US clients only, or also other geographic areas?

All areas. We will accept ideas and projects and customers everywhere.

Question 8. Do or did you provide any tokens at a bonus?

There is no discount in the public sale. There are 20% of Dragons allocated for the team and partners. Included are all marketing and referral pools. All of the team & partner Dragons are distributed slowly over 2 years.
There was a presale in August with very strategic partners which was very limited that received a 30% bonus as it capped out.

This gives me a bit of extra confidence in this ICO, which is still open for 16 days. There’s no rush, but if you’re interested, here’s a link to the ICO.

Disclaimer: These are the results of my own investigation for my own interest. I'm not connected to Dragonchain or the team.
