Entry of Dragon Art Contest －(原創)畫龍比賽，我的龍叫「吉」

I has joined the contest of dragon drawing held by @kristyglas. I decided to go with an art piece combining the Chinese word 「龍」(Dragon) and the drawing of Chinese Dragon.

這是我參與英文區畫龍比賽的參賽品。我決定用中文的「龍」字混合我的畫作，以表現順道宣揚我們「龍的文化」。

• Inspiration 靈感
  
  Here is some background information about the Chinese Dragon:
  Chinese dragon is the legendary creature in Chinese mythology. The dragon look alike various animals in different parts while the main feature is the snake-liked body. Chinese dragon always refer to fortune or positive incidents, as well the mighty power in Chinese tradition, unlike the dragon in the western culture. Thus the Chinese Dragon is the core symbol in the Chinese culture. That's why I choose the dragon as the theme of my artwork.

先說點「龍」的背景資料:
中國或是東方的龍是東方文化中的傳說生物，外貌通常為蛇形的身體。與西方的龍不同，西方的龍常被指為邪惡，東方的龍則代表著吉祥喜氣，一般都是帶來好運的象徵。中國文化著重「龍」衍生而來的文化，從自古天子都身穿龍袍就可見一斑。於是我就想用中國龍的主題參賽。

This is the Chinese word 「龍」.

I was planing to use the Chinese word 「龍」(dragon) as the structure of my work. The word「龍」could be split into two parts - the right and the left part. I would keep the right side as it has to present the traditional culture by retaining the traditional font. And I make the left part into a drawing of Chinese dragon.

於是利用中國文字中的「龍」字作為藍圖去構思這幅圖畫。中文的「龍」字分為兩邊，我保留了右邊的文字，左邊的文字則用龍的形態表現出來。留下傳統的字體，更能表現出古老文化的味道。

• Procedure 作畫過程
  I was drawing the outline of the Chinese word 「龍」with pencil. And drew the left part as Chinese Dragon with a mighty face.

我先根據中國書法中的「龍」字畫出草圖，左邊文字則畫作一條東方龍，張牙舞爪，好不厲害。

Then I used the watercolor to paint the word and dragon. I was trying to imitate the traditional font of the word so you may notice there were different color thickness and texture. I was using red as the color because red in Chinese culture means something good that is similar symbolism of the Chinese Dragon.

我再利用水彩模仿書法的筆劃把文字及龍身畫出，所以你會看出有點顏色深淺不一，顏料也有凹凸之感。這裡我的處理應該可以有所改善。我特別選擇用紅色是因為紅色於中國文化也是有吉祥喜慶的意思，剛好配合龍所代表的意義。

I would like to name the dragon 'Gut'. This is the name of my lovely cat and it means fortune in Chinese!

我打算叫這條龍作「吉」，這是我最愛的貓的名字，也是「吉祥的意思」，跟龍的象徵不謀而合。

• How the art piece related to me 後記
  Chinese Dragon was a legendary creature that gave the feeling of mysterious. Sometimes I was doing the same as I would keep secrets in my heart and people would feel me as something hidden to them. They are not easy to get contact with me like the dragon.

龍是一種神秘的生物，自古以來神出鬼沒，一直給人神秘之感，我有時也是一個頗為神秘的人，會把情感等都收藏心裏不告訴人，跟龍一樣難以捉摸。

And red is one of my favorite color. This also represents my optimistic character like the meaning of red color does.

另外紅色是我最喜愛的顏色，也能代表我常常喜樂的性格。

You could see the face of my dragon is a bit scary. Sometimes I looks the same as well. But instead of assaulting you, I would like to seek the good thing for my friends and family, like what the dragon would bring to people.

你看我的龍表情有點可怕，也是和我，我有時也是面兇兇的，其實只是外表，內裏的我也是很熱情，很希望為別人帶來好事的。

I am sometimes a simple person like my drawing does. Nothing complicated.

我有時也只是一個追求簡約的人，不需甚麼天花亂墜的生活，平淡是福。
