Xpaths. Episode 2. Meeting Helen

in #drawing8 years ago (edited)

Wind from the open window playfully tugged at her hair. The feeling of freedom and youth overwhelmed breast. Everything seemed possible and all dreams feasible. The anticipation of something new and exciting made her heart beat faster on this sunny summer day.
Green landscapes, vast fields, everything that represented the pride of Ukraine flashed outside the Express. Symbolically, it was the seat with the first number in the new two-decker train, only recently bought by the State Railway. This sitting on the second floor added excitement to the short journey. It was amusing to watch the difference of view from the upper point than usual. Not accustomed to comfort, she was enjoying the opportunity to pamper herself with this high-speed train trip.
A few white clouds of hilarious shapes lazily surfed the bright blue sky. But the thoughts were far away, somewhere behind horizon with a new start for a 26 year old young woman.
A small episode when she was getting aboard the Express made her smile again. There were two simultaneous conversations one between She, Helen, and the conductor and another one between two men passengers. One of passengers, trying to flirt, made eye contact with her and loudly asked his friend, “Have you heard about beauty contest? Interesting who won.”
Meanwhile she was answering the conductor, who was confirming her seat, responding,“Yes. It’s me, number one”. The men passengers thought she was responding to them.
She endured the next few moments of silence of astonishment with the grace of a beauty queen and proudly proceeded to her seat. The whole coincidence made her laugh to herself. She decided to keep this seemed to be lucky ticket.

Donetsk was not the most beautiful city Helen had ever seen. According to rumours ~,exaggerated, as it turned out ~ it was a dazzlingly modern city with towering steel and glass buildings. To her eyes, however, it seemed quite ordinary. Like so many places she had been in her country, Donetsk still bore the echoes the Soviet era, with wide squares and a statue of Lenin in the centre of the city. That notwithstanding, however, it still had its own charm. The city also seemed to be very green and spacious.

She loved becoming acquainted with new places, and since she considered maps friends, it was not difficult. She quickly found the supermarket Swan, the one from those times when the most common architectural solution was a box, in other words
nothing remarkable, except for the beautiful name.
She was applying for a job at Swan and the future employer she needed to meet was late. So while she waited in the customer lounge, she took time to gaze about her and familiarize herself with what might well be where she would be working as she got her new start in a new city.

To be continued... See you next Sunday
