One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong!
The first person to guess correctly gets 0.5 SBD :P

This is the current progress for my wing studies. I pinned all of my references here. As soon as I'm completely done I'll share the finished work and the original pencil sketch as usual. Also I'll try to explain what I learned about wings. >.>

Fascinating Bird Facts

  • Hummingbirds can fly backwards.
  • Birds have hollow bones which help them fly.
  • Owls can twist their necks to turn their heads about 270 degrees
  • Birds don’t fall off of a branch when they sleep because their toes automatically clench around the twig they are standing on.
  • Someone who suffers from "anatidaephobia" believes that somewhere, somehow a duck or goose is constantly watching them...
  • An albatross can soar for as long as six hours without moving its wings.

Thank you! hahaha <3 ^-^ Glad you like it so much.

Sweet! I suck at drawing animals from memory - I will dig in to it later. Saving this for later. Good job!

Thank you :D Yeah me too really, but I don't mind using reference. From what I've read from other artists is that with extra studies it should get easier to draw even from memory. But understanding how certain things work is crucial :)

The nerd in me loves to study things an figure out the trix. I was studying the human body and autonomy last year and it really payed well. Jup, think the studies are crucial but taking a course from someone that has already done it is maybe the fastest. :)

Yeah definitely, for those looking for budget options there are some cheap patreon lessons and black friday on cubebrush/gumroad :D
Also anatomy books are a bit expensive but on yearly book fares they can be insanely cheap :D

Almost all are birds with feathered wings, but for the bat. Is that the thing?

I love these, they're beautifully done!

Congrats! I sent you 0.5 SBD and I managed to misspell the memo xD
Thank you <3 :D
I was curious how many people pay attention to details haha ^^

Wow I love these, I get so exasperated because I can not sketch for the life of me. It takes me 1 hour to draw just 1 of your birds because I want it to be perfect -.- Yours look lovely ^^

Thank you, I never said that these are quick hahaha xD But I guess not 1 hour per bird, some are tiny afterall :D
Forgot to mention that it's A4 ^^

Beautiful drawings and very interesting bird facts!
imagines a humming bird flying backwards then bumping into a tree

That one bird looks very batty...

Yeahhh xD
It does make sense tho that they fly backwards when I remembered how they move, zig zag :D

I remember doing a lot of wing/feather studies recently. Still an ongoing process but not nearly as hardcore as it was now that I know roughly what wing shape I should probably stick to when tacking wings onto a human ;D

Only one bat? :) I suppose they don't have quite as much variation in wing shape as birds XD

goatsig

Yeah in the previous post I compared the wings to hands in a less accurate but easier to understand way. The wing bones actually work like: the palm is longest part, then wrist to elbow and lastly, elbow to shoulder is actually very small for birds and it never has wings connected to that bone! But sometimes chest feathers cover the bone making it hard to notice :D
I'm just practicing explaining xD It will be tricky making a post haha

Don't worry there is an upcoming whole page of just bats xD It's still just pencil sketches tho ^^

Hummingbirds can fly backwards ? o_O
Awesome studies keep it up @kristyglas !

Yeahh xD
For me the hollow bones was biggest shock when I discovered it just a couple of years ago, idk how I didn't hear or read before :D

I would have say the bat (believe me or not without looking to the comments XD) but I'm waaaay too late... You're working great!

Thank you :D
I believe you, but you're way too late for the reward haha xD
