A good night song, Exclusively on Steemit

Years ago I lived in an a little house next to a pond, and it was located way way back from the road. In the summer time, we always slept with our windows open, and outside all you could hear were crickets and bullfrogs. It was beautiful and peaceful, and this song is about that time.

It was a difficult stretch in some ways. I was mostly doing manual labor, and we were living day to day trying to find our way in the world. And at night I remember just coming home and collapsing from exhaustion.

This was many years ago and I forgot about this song until tonight, but it was a long, long day of work and I came home, collapsed in the bed, and began singing old country songs for my girls, who are 7 and 4.

Some of those songs are so sad, and my oldest got pretty emotional so I switched to some happy songs, and ended the night with this one, "Goodnight Darling".

They're both asleep now, so I slipped downstairs and recorded this for the first time. If you listen closely, you can hear a truck roar by towards the end. The nights are getting warm now, and folks are out cruising around.
