Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Hogwarts' March - Piano Cover (Synthesia)
The Hogwarts' band may not have existed until the Goblet of Fire, but the one song they played sure does beat Pomp and Circumstance. This track has a certain charm to it that brings back the magic of Hogwarts, despite the darkness of the Triwizard tournament that is happening at that same time. The happy theme juxtaposes beautifully with the maze challenge and with what happens to Cedric Diggory. It really shows the innocence of what the students should be experiencing at that time, instead of dealing with Voldemort. Sorry, "He who must not be named".

This is a beautiful example of how music can set the tone and influence the mood of a film. Hearing this instantly brought me back to the emotion surrounding this scene. One of my favorite examples of the significance of a well-composed score is the Pixar movie WALL-E. Music makes up the bulk of the communication with the audience throughout the first half of the movie. I used the film in my classroom to introduce my students to tone and mood. Music makes movies better 🌱
Yeah, WALL-E is a really interesting movie. When I first saw it I was rather young and don't think I realized that it was missing dialogue at the time. It wasn't until I went back that I noticed, showing just how perfect the music for the film was since it filled in all of the voids without the audience even questioning it. Then of course there is Cast Away, which is almost devoid of music and is also a powerful use of silence.
Yes, such an accurate description of how well-composed the score for WALL-E really is! Most of my students did not realize there wasn't dialogue either until I asked them to reflect on it. I have never thought about the impact of silence in Cast Away, or any other movie. I think we are trained to hear, and there is so much sound in our world, that unless you stop to think about what you are hearing (or not hearing) the impact of sound simply does not register in our consciousness. Probably exactly the characteristic of human nature that allowed WALL-E's creators to insert music instead of dialogue without us noticing. 🌱
I'm gonna have to watch WALL-E again at some point soon. It is crazy how much sound there is that filters into our ears constantly. I've noticed with some people that they have a real problem with sitting around in a silent atmosphere. If they don't have the tv on in the background, or some podcast, or some music going, they start to get anxious. Also, while I don't think it's necessarily a good piece of music per se, John Cage's 4'33" does make an interesting artistic statement about that fact.

This truly is a happy tune! I can just imagine what you described that the track shows the innocence of what the students should be experiencing at that time instead of dealing with all the darkness! I watched Harry Potter to a certain extent until they became too dark for me. I am intrigued by the software you used, Synthesia is it? I have been wondering how that is done. I am trying to learn to play piano, the easy way and I have seen tutorials similar to yours and I think it is so cool to have that to assist with learning. Thank you for sharing this track with us!
There definitely is that innocence for a lot of the children, even despite the dark events at least. Luckily for most students in that world, the villain is pretty single minded and only goes after Harry Potter, so that's a nice assurance in some ways haha
For software I do use Synthesia for the falling notes and combine it with an overhead camera (just my phone's) and audio that's recorded into my computer so I don't get the sound of traffic or roommates in the audio feed.
Yes, it certainly does beat Pomp and Circumstance by a longshot. I loved this piece in the Goblet of Fire. In fact I love the entire Harry Potter series and have the entire set of books. The song itself is soft, yet it defines the tone of the entire Harry Potter series. Thanks for sharing @blackflame23.

Thanks! The Harry Potter universe is so great and I'm glad that Rowling managed to come up with such wonderful ideas. The books and movies were such a huge part of my childhood.
