This Is Water
Greetings & Salutations,
There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way who nods at them and says, "Morning boys, how's the water?" The two young fish swim on for a bit and eventually one of them looks at the other and goes, "What the hell is water?"
This is the opening words to a speech I heard about 10 years ago that made me seriously reexamine my personal world view. Now, I realize that this may not be exactly along the lines of the given assignment; but I just took an entire eight week course entitled "Water Science", at the same time I took "Soil Science" which was last weeks topic. The fact is, "Water" is all around you. It permeates everything from the air you breath, to the thoughts you think.
I urge each of you to click on this link and take 9 minutes out of your life to listen and watch and have just a little introspection. As students of Life, the words are actually meant specifically for you!
In 2005, author David Foster Wallace was asked to give the commencement address to the 2005 graduating class of Kenyon College. However, the resulting speech didn't become widely known until 3 years later, after his tragic death. It is, without a doubt, some of the best life advice we've ever come across, and perhaps the most simple and elegant explanation of the real value of education.
We made this video, built around an abridged version of the original audio recording, with the hopes that the core message of the speech could reach a wider audience who might not have otherwise been interested. However, we encourage everyone to seek out the full speech (because, in this case, the book is definitely better than the movie).

This information is definitely worth your time, and I hope you watch it and enjoy it and spread it around, because the water can be just fine fellas, the water can be just fine.
