MY WAY TO GO GREENER FAILED – FOR NOW! | D.tube talk#200

in #dtube5 years ago

Hi D.tube family.
Today’s video is about how I planned to get greener by collecting energy by using a power bank with an attached solar panel.
What I failed to make sure before, was getting some basic knowledge in solar energy and thinking twice before making a decision.
Anyway, I learned something out of this and that is what I want to share with you today.
If you want to know what it is about, click the video and enjoy my story.
Next step is getting a bigger solar panel which will actually collect enough solar power to charge the power bank.

Thank you for watching and have a wonderful day!

Love from Barcelona

We learn as long as we live and keep trying new things @hauptmann, and yeah you do need way bigger solarpanel to charge that.

Let's do the math, so you have a 24 AH (24000mAH) battery and since it's USB it's 5 Volts, so that means 5x24 = 120 WH (Watt hours), so you can charge it fully for 12 hours in full sunshine with a 10 Watt solarpanel, or 6 hours with a 20 watt one, but you do need some margin there to account for anything but full sunshine so add about 50% extra, and there you have it, you do also need to take into account at what level the powerbank is able to receive it.

Have an awesome day ahead.

Wrong. They usually have a 3.7V with a boost converter to 5V. So it's around 89WH. The solar panel included in this power bank seems to be around 1W given it's size. To you would need about 90hours of full sunshine to charge it. Not so bad anyway if you are in a remote area and want to power maybe an e-reader and some sporadic phone usage.

Sorry my mistake, the input is 5 Volts though, so only the watthours for the powerbank has to be adjusted, so it's 9 hours at 10 watts input and 4.5 hours at 20 watts, thanks for correcting me.

Hey @hueso, thank you so much for bringing in your knowledge and making the math even more precise. I am very blessed having guys like you here in my comment section, who are interacting with so much valuable feedback on my content. Once again, thank you and best greeting to Buenos Aires from Barcelona

Wooooow I am amazed! Thank you so much @flaxz for making the math for me. I would have never know as my technical knowledge is very basic. Thank you so much, now I know what I have to look for getting the right solar panel for my green energy mission. Best greetings from Barcelona

Thanks @hauptmann, do also take note of the input Ampere on the powerbank, if it's 2,1 A then at 5 V you will have a max input of 10,5 W.

Never give up !

Thank you @solarcoach great to know we have a solar related account here within our community. Follow you for more interesting posts about green energy. Greetings from Barcelona

2 days and 20% charged! My goodness. Thanks for warning us all! Great video, great information as always my friend! Loved that first few second clip of rainy Barcelona too. The city is still beautiful and classy, even in the rain! Hope you are doing well, and I'll be in touch!

Thank you Dan for stopping by. Please read the comments from @flaxz and @hueso... They brought up the math and made the whole thing useful.
Hope you doing fine my friend. Best greetings from Barcelona

Ahh. I see. Thanks for telling me bro!

Experience always leaves some tips to learn about for next time. There is no harm in trying

Agree. We never learn if we don't fail. I actually like it when I fail. As you said, we get experienced more and more out of failure. Greetings from Barcelona

That was a great post @hauptmann. I suppose that we all struggle at times appreciating the complexities or subtleties when it comes to advanced tech. I applaud your effort on this initiative and i am sure that as the needs and (in)practicalities become clear, the technology will improve. Lets revisit this in 5 years and see where we are!!

Bests,

Edgar.

Hey Edgar, thank you so much for your great comment. Yes I agree, it will become more and more normal using these technologies. I will keep on educating myself on that and soon enough I will take the advantage from it. Will let you know when my phone is running 100% on green solar power. 😎 Best greetings from Barcelona

thanks for that @hauptmann. Yes, with these kinds of things i always think about the original Miami Vice episodes where they were using these huge wireless phones.

Times have changed!!

bests,

Hahah this is crazy :D I brought rain to Barcelona :D And stole your sunshine haha....it's almost 30 degrees here today and next days should be the same :D

Btw the background in ur vid feels like a green screen :D

And btw I almost done the same mistake as you :D but I've googled a bit more back then and bought a regular powerbank :D

It's OK, keep the sun for some days. As long as you bring it back for the next weekend all good. 😎
Yeahhh... Some fancy wallpaper with textures. Hope to be outside again tomorrow. Greetings from Barcelona my friend

You need to leave it in the roof at least a week in order for it to be charged.

A week will not make it, believe me 😂 that needs a month minimum. Thanks for stopping by and greetings from Barcelona

That makes sense. What is the rated power of the rolar panel? Saludos( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Pretty good lighting in this meeting room! I like the idea of living greener. Simple small things can make a big impact, IMO. I started to have short and semi cold showers, washing hands with cold water, bicycle instead of car when possible and so on.

Those cold showers will benefit you in the first place :) Stick to it :)

Been taking them for couple of months now and it's craaazy how easy you get used to it..I don't even remember the warm shower feeling TBH...it's like a coffee haha :D You don't like it first time and suddenly youre addicted to it :D

absolutely agree! i started because of wim hof and realized its good for me and the planet as well. you really get used to it

Yeah, room light off and just the natural light into the face. Worked out good, but I feel better being outside tbh. Yes I agree, little steps can make a big impact. Will continue this project and getting a bigger solar panel to get this green energy into my power bank.
Have a great day my friend, greetings from Barcelona
