Have you ever heard of a Chicken having baby Ducks? Or a duck having baby chickens?
Well....this is my first time and we are actually having our first experience with it.

These are our duck eggs which I gave to the chicken.

These are the 4 duck eggs and 4 chicken eggs which I first gave to the mama chicken, but eventually had to take the 4 chicken eggs our and gave the chicken another duck egg.
My grandmother, my mother-in-law and my husband always loved the farm animals which always included the chickens.
I have spent my childhood summers in my grandmas farm house, so I have learned and experienced some of the farm homesteads which I really, really love but because we have always lived in a city, we were never really allowed to have the chickens or any farm animals which we always wanted.
Now that we are living back in El Salvador, we finally have our own chickens and for the first time our ducks (1 pair of young ducks) which gave us about 10 duck eggs, but for some reason stopped for about 5 days now. Not really sure why, but maybe that is the process they go through especially after first round of laying their first eggs.
Like I said before, we still have a lot to learn and what better way to learn than to actually experience it yourself.
I have saved the 5 duck eggs, so that when the duck was ready to stay in the nest and have her babies, I would have the eggs ready, but because the young duck is not laying any eggs for about 5 days now and not staying in the nest to have babies, I decided to give the 5 duck eggs to one of the chickens that has been sick (wanting to have babies and staying in her nest).
I didn't think I could do that, but I have heard of many people doing that, including my mother-in-law who said that is what I should do, because that is what her mom did.
Otherwise, I would have to either eat the eggs because they are not refrigerated (to have baby chickens or duck you can't refrigerate the eggs) and they will go bad and because I really want to have some baby ducks, I decided to put them underneath our chicken which I think will be a great mom since she doesn't leave the nest pretty much all day.
The reason I think this chicken will be a great mom is because not all chickens are great mommas since they leave their nests many times a day to eat or drink etc. A good mama chicken stays in her nest sometimes for few days without coming out to eat or drink because their job is to keep the eggs really warm all the time and if they leave the nest for a while, the eggs cool down.
We don't really have a nice chicken coop for the chickens to lay eggs, but we have made 4 nests out of the boxes and filled them up with some soft dried corn leaves etc. and the chickens have been laying their eggs ever since.
So because I am still learning, I thought I can put 4 chicken eggs and 4 duck eggs, just like I did on the video and the babies will be born all together, but what I didn't think of it until later is that I am not really sure if the chicken egg hatching process (which takes 20-22 days) is the same time as the duck egg hatching process, which I found out later it takes 40 days for the duck eggs to hatch, so we had to change our plans and take the 4 chicken eggs out and instead add another duck egg so that we can have a nice number of 5 ducks if everything goes well.
If I would leave all the eggs with the chicken then after the 20 days the chickens would hatch and then the mom chicken would leave the nest and the baby ducks would never make it, so I had to make the choice of just giving her the baby ducks.
Now I just hope that the mom chicken will stay in the nest for this long and if not, hopefully maybe the duck will be ready to have her babies and I can move the duck eggs to her or another chicken will be ready for having babies which we had to do last time, since one of the mom's was not really good mom and left her eggs but because there was another chicken who was ready for babies, we gave her the eggs and she was a really good momma.
Now the process of raising the ducks and chickens is pretty much the same, since they eat the same food etc, the only difference is that the ducks need a little pool or water since they love, love swimming and cooling down in it, so I just can't wait to see the cute little duckies swimming in the little pool which I still have to buy, but I have 40 days to do it.
I have never seen baby ducks before, but from what I hear they are just so adorable and way cuter than the baby chickens.
I will keep you posted on our exciting experiment.
So this is our first experience and we are very excited and hopefully it will all turn out and all 5 baby ducks will hatch because I really would like to have more ducks.
Would love to hear if you ever heard of such thing or had an experience with it or would love to hear any suggestions because like I said, we are still learning.
Hope you enjoyed the short video of our good momma chicken getting all happy and covering all of her eggs to warm them up.
Wish you all a wonderful day everyone.
Love

Baby ducks have a different need than baby chicks especially when feeding so I hope they won't get a problem when they hatch especially at feeding time @joalvarez but I am sure that you will manage that easy for them.
I guess I better check that out so that I am ready when the baby ducks are here. 38 more days.
Thanks for letting me know @cryptopie
