I highly recommend reading Rollo May's Man's Search for Himself if you haven't already. He's actually mentioned in that very same speech by Earl Nightingale. It's an amazing read, really helps put society and life into perspective. It delves deep into what causes loneliness, emptiness, and anxiety in modern man.
Thanks for stopping by @namiks, yes, the book is mentioned quite early in, I have not read it though, as you sell it so well though, I think I should. Who wouldn't want a better understanding on that?
