February 2005, YouTube, the video-sharing Giant was designed by three former PayPal employees—Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim and sold for US$1.65 billion to operate as one of Google's subsidiaries.
Since it become a Google subsidiary, it's upload, view, rate, share, add to favorites, report, comment on videos and subscriptions to other users tools, change drastically as the corporate media with their traditional discriminatory selection enter the ecosystem of YouTube and everything change.
Youtube and it's well know brand
In the other side we have DTube the Java application that runs in the browser, and also allows any account holder to upload, view, rate, share, comment and watch videos on top of the IPFS Network using STEEM blockchain as a database that enables earning rewards from uploads.
While Youtube monetization (as a centralized system) is selective, as it applies the same selective process of the old Media & TV patronage, DTube appears as the indie alternative, where monetization goes directly to the uploader account, free from the complicated advertisement monetization calculus of YouTube platform.
DTube appeas as the great alternative to the centralized, corporate media that YouTube has become but still lacks with the most necessary function of a video sharing platform - it's performance.
