Gunung Gede is a mountain in Java, Indonesia. Gunung Gede is within the scope of Gede Pangrango National Park, which is one of the five national parks that was first announced in Indonesia in 1980. Recorded in 1819, C.G.C. Reinward was the first person to climb Mount Gede, then F.W. Junghuhn (1839-1861), J.E. Teijsmann (1839), A.R. Wallace (1861), S.H. Koorders (1890), M. Treub (1891), W.M. Docters van Leeuwen (1911); and C.G.G.J. van Steenis (1920-1952) made a collection of plants as the basis for compiling the book The Mountain Flora of Java published in 1972.

Gunung Gede also has an ecosystem diversity consisting of submontane, montane, subalpin formations; and the ecosystems of lakes, swamps and savanna.

Gunung Gede is known for its rich variety of birds, as many as 251 species of 450 species found on Java. Some of them are rare birds, namely the Javan eagle (Spizaetus bartelsi) and celepuk jawa (Otus angelinae).

Gunung Gede-Pangrango National Park was designated by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve in 1977, and as Sister Park with Taman Negara

The history and legend which is the belief of the local people is about the existence of Eyang Suryakancana. Suryakancana is the Son of Dalem Cikundul or Rd. Aria Wira Tanu I, founder of Cianjur and first regent of Cianjur, the result of his marriage to Princess Jin. The community believes that Eyang Suryakencana, whose notary is a genie, still lives around Mount Gede, and becomes the ruler of the Jinn nation on the mountain. At certain times, many people, especially adherents of the Wiwitan Sundanese Religion, enter caves around Mount Gede for meditation and religious ceremonies.

To reach the location of Gede Pangrango National Park can be reached through the Jakarta-Bogor-Cibodas route with about 2.5 hours (± 100 km) using a car, or Bandung-Cipanas-Cibodas with a time of 2 hours (± 89 km), and Bogor- Salabintana with a time of 2 hours (52 km).
