Egyptian Oud, Doumbek, Shaker and Jaw Harp Jam
This improvisation started oud on my Egyptian Oud then I added a doumbek, shaker and jaw harp track. Its always a surprise to see what happens when I revisit an improvisation video and see what kind of additional instruments can be added. The jaw harp seemed to go well with the drone notes of the oud and the oud and doumbek is a classic middle eastern combination. For the shaker track I shook it between two microphones to get a stereo depth effect. Overall it turned out pretty good hope you all enjoy :-) and thanks for listening.

finally I've had time to watch it without anything distracting me. man, I'm impressed with your talent and efforts. I cant believe it was improvisation... well, I believe ofc, but i cant understand hows that possible xD
I dont play music, but Im really fascinated with playing darbuka, and also I have two jewish harps in my posession -- I dont just collected them, I do play from time to time, the more simple one I borrow with me most of the time.
ok, thats it... hmmm...
oh, and the last one. have you heard any albums by Muslimgauze?.. they are rather industrial, but very arabic-scented ... I adore this artist very much.
Thanks for listening. For improvising i usually jam for about 15 minutes before recording anything then i do about 3 takes and pick the best one. After that adding the drums etc is fairly easy, i try not to polish things up too much since its just a jam. Thanks for recommending muslimgauze i'll check it out i like the arabic scales in music and the odd timed drum beats.

Jaw harp is really fun and portable to bring with you. I like the way mongolians use it with their morin khuurs and throat singing.

me too, the music of Altay region, Tuwa. actually, i m in the know a lot of different nations have invented and used this instrument, under the different names: jewish harpa, vargan, khomus, kubjiz, madyars had it as doromba, etc etc etc. I prefer to name it 'vargan' . I will show you mine, when I ll take a good pic. but have got no records, hehe
Beautiful music. I wish I had something better to say, but it's all I got :) . I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for listening :-)
