We Need To Get The Viewers Unto DTube! Viewers Are Tired Of Adverts
Steemians, DTubers!
Hope your weekend has been amazing like mine.
In this video, I address the recent developments with YouTube's Adblock bypass. Some users that were using Adblock to remove adverts on YouTube are starting to see ads again. There is some noise on social media now of how they are fed up of YouTube. Now, if only there was an ad-free, decentralised platform they could go, hmmmm.
▶️ DTube
▶️ IPFS
Youtube is an amazing service, but the ads are getting more annoying. I just watched a 15 minute video with ads at the start and middle. I wonder how well dtube and dlive can scale. They already struggle with playback sometimes. Youtube have massive resources to give a good experience and that costs. I pay for Netflix and I wonder if I'd pay Youtube for the option to lose the ads, if that was available in the UK.
Of course the distributed services are taking part of our rewards. I think they need to make that much more obvious. I expect some people don't even realise they do this. Storing and streaming video is an expensive business and we have to decide how we want to pay for it.
You're 100% right on the expenditure bit. Video is basically the largest chunk of data on the Internet. It's also the most expensive to store and serve. One high quality video, is the equivalent of hundreds, if not thousands of blog posts with just text and photos.
The big bottleneck with DTube the IPFS server issue, so how do you store so much content, and serve it on-demand. Like you said, Google/YouTube have near infinite resources and just throw money at the problem. Lets wait and see.
I think we've conversed about this a bit already and I agree on many fronts. I think we need more viewers over to DTube, as what we have now are really classified as creators/viewers. I will say that the archive ability Youtube currently employs, has built a wealth of useful knowledge accessible at the fingertips of the best search engine currently on planet earth. I can go there to find anything I need or want to learn almost. This is powerful and one of the current weaknesses of the DTube platform.
That being said, I believe we are in the early growth stages and development of DTube and the team there is working hard I have no doubt on how to best crack this nut without the mega riches of Alphabet, Inc backing them. I'm optimistic and can already see/feel the improvements going on in the background and DTube HQ. We just need to keep up the good work, support them as best we can, and continue to create great content to attract the viewers that will eventually find this alternative.
@captainbob, you know I have changed my attitude recently. I was creating content for the viewers that weren't here yet. So now, I'm creating content for said creator/viewers :)
And man, Alphabet, Inc - Google's money laundry front company haha.
Yeah man. I think you are on to something my friend. Aphabet, Inc. is the tech mafia now, lol.
While I respect the concept dtube is bringing forward I don't think its a one size fits all solution that would disrupt the likes of youtube. DTube will be a great platform for independent content creators who don't fit into the current youtube mould.
Its kind of a catch 22 situation because you need creators to get views and you need views to get creators.
YouTube has been great in the past decade, because YT itself disrupted the status quo right, by giving the everyday person the ability to publish videos (FOR FREE) to billions of people with almost no overhead. However the advertising model that supports YouTube is falling apart. The world is changing, and YouTube needs to change or die, just like the big media giants before it.
DTube is nowhere near perfect yet, you're right, but when we get the viewers here, and the creators really bring their A game, then we have the potential to change the world. Again.
Nailed it.
I agree with what you're saying YT really did change the game and created an ideology of independent content creation and made it possible, the trend is definitely bigger than Youtube itself. Video content on the net has been split between YT, FB, Insta and the like and if one platform could be a hollow consolidation of it I think it would be surprisingly large too
I also agree that the advertising model isn't the greatest but youtube have not really been about profits they've been about scale and they know that video content is every green. Youtube is technically the second largest search engine in the world and that's not going to change very easily.
Youtube will also be the graveyard for a lot of low quality or common denominator content that works well for views but not well on merit, same as FB vs Steemit.
I don't use dTube much but i really look forward to a time when it starts attracting more users who can set up their own little production houses/channels and push out content free from advertiser targetting and get rewarded for creativity, quality of content and execution.
Couldn’t agree more mate, great video. The shift is beginning but we have to make sure it’s here :)
Yup. Best jump on the train haha.
dtube to mooooooooooon!!! I use ad-block also hahaha
Hahaha.. you're one of the pissed off viewers then :) You should come over to DTube :)
I’m coming!!!! poof here!!
God damn! thought you're kiddin LOL
;)
We are new at DTUBE also not liking the You Tube commercial environment. We have a lot of quality content and hope to find a viewership. Ours in an ethnographic mini-documentary film of the real-world of Guerrero México. Do you think we will find any viewers here for our kind of material? The honest help of others is welcome. Thank you.
nice post!
