Yes the ability for many to stay is challenged by the difficulty of the lifestyle, sometimes isolation or finances, and a host of other reasons. 3 years is a good chunk of time :) We're blessed to have developed some great community locally which makes living here all that much better, and I feel it's important to expand our awareness and circle of friends.
