The Role of Bamboo in Human Life and Nature Conservation
The Role of Bamboo in Human Life and Nature Conservation
The role of bamboo in human life and nature conservation is very large. With bamboo, clean air can be obtained, water resistance and availability will be guaranteed and protected from the dangers of landslides. The community can also use bamboo as a support in their daily lives.
Hi Steemian how are you? Hopefully selling healthy and creative.
The natural environment in our village is still quite cool. This is because there are still many different types of plants. One of the plants that make it as fresh as is bamboo
In local languages we are familiar with the name Pring or Deling. Our territory of Indonesia requires bamboo in many languages such as aur or Buluh.
Bamboo is a kind of grass plant with cavities and internodes on the stems.
According to Wikipedia, bamboo plants have spread to various parts of the world from Asia, America, Australia, to Africa.
Utilization of bamboo in Indonesia
For rural communities bamboo is the most important element in life. bamboo has been used by residents for a long time. In various aspects of village life will always involve bamboo. Rural communities in Indonesia since ancient times have used bamboo for a variety of life support needs, such as making homes or household furniture. The following is an example of the use of bamboo in village life.
1. As a food source
The villagers are used to taking bamboo shoots from black bamboo, sweet bamboo or other types for cooking. to keep bamboo from becoming extinct of course we have to choose buds that are not good enough. if we take a superior shoot, it will certainly reduce the bamboo population. peel the bamboo petals with soft hairs that will itch until they look clean. We can cook it into vegetables or even in the city of Semarang, Central Java, there is a special food whose main ingredient is bamboo shoots known as LUMPIA.
Bamboo leaves can also be used as cattle feed or in China as panda food. The availability of bamboo will guarantee feed for animals that eat bamboo leaves.
2. Build a house.
Bamboo has been known as a material that is very durable if it is in the shade. this has been proven by the use of bamboo as building material to build houses in the village. With good treatment bamboo can last more than 50 years without being eaten by termites. Its flexibility is also very good to be used as anti-earthquake building material.
In our village there are still many who use bamboo to support a building. Starting from a rope made of bamboo, as battens, rafters, ceilings, and even as a wall with woven bamboo.
3. Home appliance craft materials
many household appliances made of bamboo. Various containers ranging from baskets, tampah, baskets can be made by bamboo weaving. At present there is even a movement to make bamboo crafts popular again to anticipate the use of plastic which will actually increase pollution.
4. As a weapon
During the struggle against colonialists, Indonesian dances also used bamboo as a weapon. Bamboo is taper cut at the ends to be used as a weapon against enemies. We know this weapon by the name of Bamboo Runcing (mean spiky/sharp bamboo).
Nature conservation
Aside from being an economic potential, bamboo also has great potential to be used as an environmental conservation crop. bamboo has a very good advantage in environmental conservation programs
1. Roots are very strong
We can see the root system of bamboo plants very tightly. Its roots spread in all directions, both sideways or inward. Land overgrown with bamboo groves usually becomes very stable. Not easily affected by erosion. Therefore, water is also easier to absorb into the soil overgrown by these plants.
This has become very good in environmental conservation efforts, especially to store water. With very tight rooting, bamboo can be relied on in its ability to protect the aquatic ecosystem.
2. Shade plants
Anyone will feel at home if under the shade of a bamboo tree. As a kind of grass plant, bamboo also has strong and flexible stems. This plant is resistant to strong winds. This character makes bamboo very suitable as a green plant, especially in watersheds
Its leafy leaves are able to guarantee oxygen availability. With this oxygen produced, we will feel cool when walking under a bamboo clump.
3. Withstand landslides
Bamboo plants actually also have drought resistant properties. Its ability to grow on steep terrain - at altitudes between one to fifteen hundred meters above sea level - is also very good. with strong roots, bamboo can be the right choice to prevent landslide. Land with steep conditions is very suitable for planting bamboo so that it can prevent landslides.
So great is the role of bamboo in human life and nature conservation, so we need to develop bamboo as one of the vegetation in preserving the environment. With bamboo, clean air can be obtained, water resistance and availability will be guaranteed and protected from the dangers of landslides. The community can also use bamboo as a support in their daily lives.
Therefore my writing this time may be useful for all of us.

Thank you for your interesting article.
When Mary and I travel to her home on the island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, we spend time cleaning the large section around the family home, and planting a variety of plants including bamboo.
She grows bamboo mainly to help with wind protection. Being in the tropics, tropical cyclones can cause devastating damage, including on Rarotonga. Bamboo is perfect for reducing damage on the leeside of their stand. Consider planting bamboo stands on the side of your properties that take the most wind damage during storms.
If you get insurance, let your insurance agent know that you have bamboo as wind protection. You might - and I stress might! - get a rebate on your insurance premiums. In this way, bamboo can be of financial benefit for your landed investments.
Bamboo is also useful for staking. Cut bamboo stakes and leave to dry for a few months, under cover. You can then use these to stake plants like tomatoes, to construct fences, to make frames for plants like passionfruit, and so many other uses.
Grow different varieties of bamboo: some to eat, some for small projects like fences and frames, and others for building homes.
As @rokhani says, let's switch from plastics to plants for our containers. As well as bamboo, coconut palm branches and other plants can also be used. For example, we use banana palm leaves as plates, as well as our local alternative to plastic wrap or tin foil wrap.
Bamboo is the world's fastest growing grass. Let that characteristic benefit your life too!
You are totally right. in my village bamboo become major plants which give many benefit ecologically, economic and other side.
Thank you for stopping by and i pray for your success
Warm regard from Indonesia
