EDC Highlight Item ~ ThruNite Ti3 Flashlight ~ Amazing
For an EDC or Every Day Carry, for those unfamiliar with the term, having a flashlight with you at all times is considered by many to be an essential EDC item. A dedicated flashlight’s usefulness is unparallelled when truly needed, and owning one from a reputable company with great products and customer service is what I consider to be a core, essential choice. This is a much more useful item than using a smartphone light, although they can be very useful as well.
The ThruNite Ti3 has a throw of 50 meters and a 625cd (candela) rating.
The unit has an IPX-8 waterproof rating and has a Cree XP-L V6 LED that has a 20 year lifespan. It is impact resistant to 1 meter. This is one tiny beast!
Although the cool white can look sexy on paper, I recommend the neutral white as a much less harsh and more natural looking light. Much easier on the eyes in my opinion.
The ThruNite Ti3 is a highlight product for me because of its size, features and flexibility. I also own three of them and have two of them stashed in different places, while one is with me at all times as part of my EDC.
The Ti3 is a single AAA powered flashlight and is fine to use with regular consumable batteries or rechargeables.
The reversible clip makes this light a premium choice for just about anyone and gives you the ability to use it as a headlamp clipped to a common ball cap. The clip is easily reversible. In fact, many through hikers have begun using lights like this with the clip in place of a traditional headlamp. Being hands free with this kind of flexibility for under $30CAN is just fantastic.
The modes are what takes this little gem to the next level. It has four modes which are activated by twisting the head. I personally like the twist design as opposed to tailcap switch for several reasons which we’ll get into in another post likely.
Firefly mode is absolutely wonderful to have, and is very useful at 0.08 lumens. On a single, fresh AAA battery it will give you 120 hours of continuous light output. That’s impressive. That tiny amount of light is more helpful than you might think in pitch black conditions. The medium and high modes put out 10 lumens for 6.5 hours and 130 lumens for 30 minutes respectively.
The strobe mode is really great to have especially in an emergency. The strobe mode will run for a full hour flashing at full brightness. Very good to have in bad weather conditions if you needed to signal someone down or use it as an impromptu road flare to warn oncoming traffic of an issue ahead. Any situation where you really need to draw attention to yourself is where this feature really shines.
This is just a wonderfully constructed piece of kit and comes highly recommended as a premium EDC item.
Modern flashlights are part computer now with tiny motherboards of their own. There can be some failure rates with these like anything. It is always good to familiarize yourself with troubleshooting FAQs for just about anything electronic that you own. There are some key places with these to make sure they are free of dust and contacts are clean. Treat your stuff right, it will serve you well in return :)
Take it easy, stay bright,
