RE: Schooling vs. Education Part 2

in #education8 years ago

haha the 'minister of education' - ridiculous to think that a state run entity knows how to best educate an individual kid...and no i am not on the fence!

we found a group and were apart of starting up a montessori school which has been fascinating for my older two - are you familiar with montessori? and what are your thoughts on it?

looking forward to the third post

Thank you :) Glad to know! Most people are too slow to acknowledge how miserably the system has failed them, their kids and all children. Yes I am familiar with the Montessori method and it's a fascinating one. There are many aspects of it I agree with including the fact that child is often free to explore, experiment and grow as a result. I also like that the teacher plays the role of a facilitator rather than being an authoritarian figure, which takes away the pressure of expectation or right and wrong. However, it's still a system and one where the parent doesn't have the ultimate say in what or how their children learn, and why. Having said that, I would choose a Montessori school over any other school simply because children are not treated like faceless and nameless members of the institution. And they are given room to be themselves and to discover things for themselves rather than following a rigid curriculum.
It depends on circumstances, but personally, there is no school better than homeschooling where children can get guided education in a supportive, loving and familiar environment. Hope this answers your question :)

haha! good to hear your thoughts we have had slightly different experiences based on our kids teachers and each kids personality with each child. Love the convictions you have!

Yeah that can happen. Thank you, appreciate it!
