Dr. Jo Joseph represents a rare combination of technical expertise, social insight, and global perspective. His work bridges information and communication technology, governance frameworks, and migration studies, creating a body of scholarship that is both interdisciplinary and internationally relevant. Born in Nedumkandam, Kerala, on August 7, 1981, he spent his formative years attending St. Mary’s LP School in Chembalam, Government LP School in Santhanpara, St. Maria Goretti UP School in Murikumthotti, and St. Sebastian’s High School in Nedumkandam. He later joined the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School in Nedumkandam, where he also completed vocational training in electrical studies, computer networking, and hardware under the Modular Employable Skills programs of the Government of India. These early educational experiences grounded him in both theory and practice, fostering a lifelong interest in technology and its societal applications.
Dr. Joseph pursued higher education across South India, building a unique interdisciplinary foundation. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Electronics with Computer Hardware from NSS College Rajakumari under Mahatma Gandhi University. His postgraduate studies included a Master of Science in Computer Science, initially at MA College, Ramapuram, and later at St. Antony’s College, Kanjirapally, under Bharathiar University in Coimbatore. To complement his technical background, he also pursued an MTech in Information Technology at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, an MPhil in Political Science from Madurai Kamaraj University, an MA in Public Administration from the University of Madras, and a Master of Social Work in Community Development from Annamalai University. This extensive academic preparation enabled him to connect technical systems with governance, public administration, and community development.
Expanding his research to the global stage, Dr. Joseph earned two doctoral degrees in Spain. His first doctorate in Information and Communication Technologies was awarded by the University of the Balearic Islands under the supervision of Professor Carlos Juiz Garcia. At the Department of Computer Architecture and Engineering, he joined a research group focusing on management programs, innovation, and the implementation of digital systems. His second doctorate, in Migration Studies, was completed at the University of Granada under Professor Francisco Javier Garcia Castano. Working through the Institute of Migration Studies and the Department of Humanities, Legal and Social Sciences, he explored social integration, migration patterns, and policy responses. These dual doctorates highlight his ability to address complex issues from both technical and social perspectives.
Dr. Joseph’s professional experience spans multiple continents and sectors. In India, he worked with ICICI Bank in Kerala, NIMS University in Rajasthan, Digital Web and Magnus Info in Delhi, Cloudnet Technologies in Kochi, and Manvish Info Solutions in Alwaye. His international roles included positions at NGI and Alwaqt Tech Cont LLC in Sharjah, Smart Square Tech in Dubai, Continental Systems USA Inc in Miami, and Airli Pty Ltd and Orbit Australia Pty Ltd in Sydney. These diverse experiences allowed him to observe how technology and governance systems operate in different cultural and institutional contexts, reinforcing the global relevance of his research.
Currently, Dr. Joseph continues his academic work at the University of the Balearic Islands as part of Professor Carlos Juiz Garcia’s research group. His research examines the management of research and innovation programs, IT governance frameworks, and the integration of digital systems into institutional operations. He also investigates how technology can support social inclusion and policy effectiveness, particularly in contexts involving migrant populations. By combining technical expertise with social insight, he demonstrates how research can influence both practical governance and ethical approaches to human mobility.
Dr. Joseph has contributed extensively to international academic networks. He has served as a reviewer and editorial board member for journals covering ICT, migration studies, and social sciences. His affiliations include the International Journal of ICT Research in Africa and the Middle East, IGI Global, Science PG, Springer Nature journals on migration, and several Asian research journals. He is an Ambassador of the ARQUS European University Alliance and has participated in initiatives of the Center for Open Science Networks in the United States. He has also been a visiting scholar at the University of Technology Sydney and has collaborated with the ICT department at the University of Michigan.
His publications reflect the breadth of his expertise. He has authored books on IT governance, migration, and human rights, including IT Governance in an Insight of Various Management Perspectives, The Brutal Armenian Genocide Committed by the Ottoman Empire, and Christian Persecution in Worldwide. His research papers cover topics such as IT governance models, cloud computing risk management, digital transformation in public institutions, migration trends, socio-cultural integration, agribusiness, and global policy analysis. These works illustrate his commitment to examining complex societal and technological challenges from multiple perspectives.
Dr. Joseph has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences and workshops. These include events under the EU CHARLIE project, doctoral congresses in Spain, migration discourse seminars, and training programs on data analysis and research methodologies. His involvement in these forums demonstrates his dedication to knowledge sharing and collaboration across disciplines and borders.
He maintains strong ties with his family. He is the youngest son of Joseph and Rosamma Joseph Kumbalamthanam, with two elder brothers, Jose Joseph and Robin Joseph. He is married to Anns Varghese, the youngest daughter of Cherian Varghese and Rachel Varghese Plathanathil. He holds Indian nationality and has lived in the European Union, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates. He has traveled widely, speaks Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, and English, and has studied Spanish, French, and German. His hobbies include reading, listening to music, driving, playing shuttle badminton, and exploring information online.
Dr. Joseph also engages in civil society and community service. He has been involved with the Red Cross Spain, the Laudato Si' movement in Italy, the National Youth Project in India, the National Service Scheme in India, and Caritas International. He serves on the advisory board of Airli Pty Ltd in Australia and works as Project Manager for Orbit Australia Pty Ltd. His commitment to community engagement mirrors the human-centered focus of his research and reflects his broader vision of integrating technology, governance, and social responsibility.
