When Our Steemit Friend went Silent-But the children he encouraged still wait.
Years ago, when our small rural school in Kenya was struggling to survive, there was a friend from across the ocean who believed in us.
We met through the platform Steemit. While many people simply scrolled past our stories, this friend stopped… read… and cared.
Every time I shared a story about the children at our school, he would encourage me and sometimes support us with the rewards he could give.
To him, these children were not just names on a screen.
They were real.
And their stories were heavy.
One of those stories is about three children we admitted into our school.
They arrived with almost nothing.
Their mother suffers from mental illness and wanders the village at times, unable to care for them properly. The eldest boy sometimes shows signs of the same struggle. At school he may suddenly tear a book or break a pencil without reason, as if a storm is passing through his mind.
But still they come to school.
Still they try to learn.
Still they hope.
Our school became their small refuge — a place where they could sit, eat, learn, and feel safe for a few hours each day.
Whenever I shared stories like this, our Steemit friend would respond with kindness. His encouragement reminded us that even though our school is small and hidden in rural Africa, someone out there cared.
But then one day, his voice disappeared.
His account went silent.
No more comments.
No more messages.
No more encouragement.
And to this day, I do not know what happened to him.
Sometimes I open Steemit and remember those early days when hope felt closer because someone believed in our mission.
Today the children are still here.
Their needs have grown.
Our greatest challenge now is building a small dormitory for the most vulnerable students — children who walk long distances, children who have unstable homes, and children like the siblings raised by their struggling mother.
The cost of building this dormitory is about $15,000.
For many institutions, that amount might seem small.
But for our small community school, it is a mountain.
Yet I still believe what that Steemit friend once believed:
That when people hear a true story, compassion can travel across oceans.
Perhaps somewhere he would be glad to know that the seeds he watered are still alive.
And perhaps someone reading this today may feel moved to help these children take one more step toward safety, education, and hope.
Because sometimes a single act of kindness — even from far away — can become the roof over a child’s head.
And that roof can change a life forever.

Kindly if this story has touched your heart, I humbly invite you to stand with these children.
On this platform, even a small gesture can become a great blessing. Your upvote, comment, or delegation of Steem Power can help increase the rewards from this post. If you feel especially moved, you may also choose to donate STEEM tokens toward the dream of building a small dormitory for our most vulnerable students.
The total cost of the dormitory is about $15,000, but we believe that when many caring people contribute a little, something beautiful can happen.
Perhaps together we can turn the kindness once shown by a single Steemit friend into a shelter where children can sleep safely and continue their education.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for caring.
If you would like to support directly, please feel free to contact me through Steemit or leave a comment and I will respond.
Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. It truly means a lot to our small school here in Kenya and the children we are trying to help. Your kindness gives us hope.
