Backfill work, what is needed?
As we know the backfill is a work that we often see on the construction work, such as building work, roads, docks and so forth.
Backfill is the work of moving the soil to a location according to need so that it is useful for elevating ground level elevation. [1]
Backfill work is done after the land / area to be done first cleaned if it is on the area there is the remaining dismantled or existing buildings.
Soil is the main material used in backfill work.
The use of soil as the main material due to soil has several characteristics that provide even density during the work process and easily found. [2]Different soil colors make us easily distinguish them, such as black soil that acts as a peatland builder, a soil that has a reddish color that serves as a backfill material and so on.
Backfill work can be done manually, workers usually use hoes to level the ground, in the manual compaction process workers can also use tools made of wood or concrete in punctured soil solid but there are also using manual machine for compaction work .
Backfills are usually divided into three types. [3]
- Backfill with ordinary soil.
- Backfill with preferred land.
- Backfill with preferred land on marsh land.
In accordance with the type, each backfill has a placement such as a backfill with the preferred land used on road construction work.
The compaction process is carried out every 20 cm soil thickness until it reaches the planned elevation.
In this compaction process workers can also use water to make the compaction process faster and more perfect.
The stages are as follows.
- Land imported will be spread on the work site.
- Workers will tidy up the soil manually until the surface is flat.
- After the backfill elevation reaches 20 cm so the workers can water the surface of the soil with water evenly.
- The process of manual compaction is done by the worker using the tool to the ground really solid.
- The soil compaction process is carried out repeatedly until the land elevation of the plan is achieved.
Once we know a bit of backfill work we will calculate the need for manpower and material backfill work.
How much labor and material needs in backfill work like the picture below?
I use technical analysis in accordance with Indonesian National Standard to complete the calculation of labor and material requirements on backfill work. [4]
Is known.
Information | Amount |
---|---|
Length | 6.00 m |
Wide | 3.40 m |
High | 0.50 m |
Length x width x height | 6.00 x 3.40 x 0.50 |
Amount | 10,200 m3 |
To complete 1m3 backfill work is required.
Information | Amount |
---|---|
Workers | 0.030 Person per day |
Overseer | 0.010 Person per day |
Common Ground | 1,200 m3 |
In accordance with the above coefficient then to complete the 10,200 m3 backfill work is required.
Items | Information | Amount |
---|---|---|
Workers | 0.030 Person per day x 10,200 m3 | 0,306 Person |
Overseer | 0.010 Person per day x 10,200 m3 | 0,102 Person |
Common Ground | 1,200 m3 x 10,200 m3 | 12,240 m3 |
The above ground coefficient calculation includes the 20% loose factor, so in the calculation of 1m3 plus 20% = 1.2 m3.
- Manual compaction work
To complete 1m3 manual compaction work is required.
Information | Amount |
---|---|
Workers | 0,500 Person per day |
Overseer | 0.050 Person per day |
In accordance with the above coefficient then to complete 10,200 m3 manual compaction work is required.
Items | Information | Amount |
---|---|---|
Workers | 0,500 Person per day x 10,200 m3 | 5,100 Person |
Overseer | 0.050 Person per day x 10,200 m3 | 0.510 Person |
To complete the backfill work and manual compaction is required.
Items | Amount |
---|---|
Workers | 5.406 Person |
Overseer | 0.612 Person |
Common Ground | 12.240 m3 |
The above calculation is for example only and can be used by anyone, this calculation is based on technical analysis of Indonesian National Standard [4] and can be developed in accordance with the needs of the field.
With the results of these calculations and adjustments to the development of the times young engineers are expected to continue to develop knowledge for the sake of a better civilization.
This is all I can write on this occasion, for all the mistakes and lack of writing as a servant of God, I apologize.
Thanks to friends who visited this blog and to all scientists who are willing to sacrifice time for better knowledge until today.
