SUPPORT FUNDING FOR MAUREPAS SWAMP
Maurepas Swamp is one of the largest remaining forested wetlands along the Gulf Coast, providing a storm surge barrier for local residents and home to a variety of wildlife. This swamp is in decline as the scenic tree-filled area subsides into grassy marsh or open water.
Interesting article about a coastal restoration project in the Maurepas swamp area. It's a shame that this swamp is in decline, swamps can be so beautiful when healthy. The key to restoration is to divert fresh water from the Mississippi River, the same solution needed in so many places in South Louisiana.....
