Alert! E-Coli bacteria on lettuce leaves can cause death
The E-Coli outbreaks found on romaine lettuce grown in Yuma, Arizona are reported to have caused death. This is revealed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States which records 121 sick people in the top 25 states of the matter.
Reported by the New York Post, of these, 52 people were hospitalized and 14 of whom had kidney failure. Meanwhile, those infected are reported to be 1 to 88 years old, of which more than half are women.
"The planting season in Yuma ended about a month ago," says Russell Engel, from the University of Arizona.
Unfortunately, reporting delays are predicted to make the number of cases continue to increase. Pollution that occurred on March 13 and it is mentioned at this time no longer consume the harmful lettuce.
Meanwhile, those infected with E-Coli bacteria will experience bloody diarrhea, stomach cramps and vomiting. Generally, these symptoms will last for 3-4 days. However, this condition will improve within a week and some cases occur longer and worse.
