Turmeric - Spice with numerous benefits

in #esteem6 years ago

Hello buddies! I reserved this publication to present one of my favorite spices for the preparation of special, healthy and tasty dishes and it is the Turmeric, a native herbaceous plant in southwestern India (also is cultivated in Asia), whose rhizomes are ground to obtain a spice that has a yellowish orange color, in addition to a delicate and peculiar peppery flavor, warm and bitter.

Its benefits are numerous, and this is mainly due to curcumin, which is the active principle of the plant. This substance is able to inhibit the replication of the AIDS virus (HIV), prevent cancer and help in neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, turmeric,is used for infectious processes in general (colds, flu, skin diseases, ulcers), is also fungicide and antiparasitic, useful in inflammatory processes, eliminates gases and even the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) recognizes its usefulness in cases of hyper or hyposecretory dyspepsia.

However, the following considerations should be attented to for its use:

1. If consumed in high doses, exposure to the sun for long periods of time should be avoided, since the active principle of this spice increases sensitivity to sunlight.

2. People with gastroduodenal ulcers should avoid excessive consumption for a long time.

3. Consult your doctor before consuming, in case of suffering from gallstones or liver diseases.

4. Precaution of the dose during pregnancy, since they can cause uterine contractions. Consult your doctor before you consume it.

5. The dose recommended by the World Health Organization is half a gram three times a day (maximum), however you should be consulted with a health professional in case of suffering from any disease.

6. For treatment of diseases, it is preferable to consume it before meals, since curcumin is more effective on an empty stomach.

7. Combined with a little black pepper, the absorption of turmeric is favored.

8. It is not recommended to consume before a surgical intervention, as it affects blood clotting. Do not take with anti-coagulant drugs.

9. For meals, it is preferable to use this spice in powder form.

10. Do not use in masks or creams for the skin.

11. It is soluble in fats, like oil, so it can be diluted with this type of lipid to not lose its properties. For example, in salads and stews.

12. Do not subject it to prolonged cooking processes, as its active ingredients (curcuminoids) are destroyed. Incorporate it when the dish has been removed from the fire or when there are only a few minutes to remove it.
