The tuareg are a group of African Islamic habitant who are greatly dispersed across the Sahara desert and sahelian region of Africa.
They are famous for their nomadic nature and have lead them grazed all across some African countries including niger, mali, Algeria, Libya and Burkina faso, they are about a total of 1 million in population and practice the Islamic region alongside other traditional beliefs and practices.

Contrary to regular beliefs and practice the people of tuareg are used to the tradition of their women having more than one sexual partner that is to say it is permissible and legitimate for a tuareg woman to have concubines or better said sexual affairs with other men outside marriage and are head of the family and also if divorced are allowed to keep husbands entire property and continue their life.

They are highly revered by their son in law that they dare never to eat in the same room as the mother in law
Surprisingly the tuareg despite embracing the Islamic religion still held firm to some of their custom and tradition that would not be acceptable to the wider Muslim world for example women in Islam are well known for the practice of covering their faces with veil however this is the other way round for the people of tuareg instead it is the men who covers their face with blue cloth dyed with indigo and when asked why by Henrietta butler who covered the information on tuareg about the unique laws they gladly replied saying “the women are beautiful we would like to see their faces”.

Prior to marriage a tuareg woman is permitted to take as many lovers she wants as she has the same level of freedom as the boys, the men are made to ride to the woman’s tent on their well-trained camel and sneak in at night there they will spend the night together while the family of the girl who also live in the tent politely pretend not to notice anything that is happening should the woman choose to welcome a different man into her tent the next day so be it.

The Tuareg people respect and value ones privacy therefore no one dares to break the laws instead uphold with high esteem. Privacy is all important for these centuries’ old tribes of nomads who once crossed the desert bringing dates, salt and saffron south, and slaves and gold north.

Usually the men are always gone before morning as the idea of breaking the rules of courtship would be mortifying everything is done with utmost discretion and respect making the tuareg utterly discrete.
The tuareg girls seldom get married at their 20s due to the practice of having multiple sexual partners and checking out men before marriage although before marriage they will have been wooed with poetry written by the men who spend hours careful crafting the words which they hope will win their beloved over so does the woman too.
Contrary to the customary practice when a marriage ends in divorce the woman gets to keep all the properties, animals including children here the wife get to decides when she wants out of the marriage i.e divorce and in return the men take their camel and go back to their mothers, to them they don’t feel there is any shame in divorce infact when a woman is divorce the mother throw a divorce party letting the young men know that she is available for marriage again.

To this tribe the mother camp is the root of the community the home everyone returns to and this arrangement ensures it stays that way, the tuareg people are matrilineal i.es the family trace their lines through the woman not men, right the way back to their first queen sisters son is considered as strongest link to the family than their son this specifies that the sisters child belongs to her rather than a man’s son as it is not sure they share the same genes
