John and the eternal life: The reaper is already receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life. John 4:36

The Gospel of John is not a synoptic gospel and recounts the life of Jesus in a unique way that is not found in any other gospel. This text of the New Testament touches on certain themes such as spiritual rebirth, gnosis, and the seven "I am" statements, making it an extremely interesting and mysterious spiritual text.
It could be said that in the Gospel of John, the public life of Jesus began after his baptism in the Jordan River with John the Baptist. But Jesus' teachings about the Kingdom of God began not with his baptism but with his nighttime encounter with the teacher of the law, Nicodemus; in this encounter, Jesus spoke about being born of the Spirit to perceive the dominion of divine perfections, that is, the kingdom of God. In other words, Jesus spoke about the transformation of man's essence through the eternal wisdom of God.
But these teachings about the spiritual man, that is, the man transformed by being born again, do not end with Nicodemus but conclude and are completed in Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman who was looking for water at a well near the Samaritan city of Sychar. In his encounter with the Samaritan woman, Jesus compared the water that the woman drew from the well to that living water that produces eternal life, the life that begins with the new birth of the spirit; fundamentally, eternal life in Jesus's thinking is the contemplative activity and the blessings that it brings with it.
That is why, when the woman who was looking for water and had spoken with Jesus left the divine teacher and the disciples came, Jesus spoke to them metaphorically about the Samaritans who should convert to receive the contemplative life; the Samaritans were that field prepared for the harvest, and with these words Jesus taught this truth: "Open your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready for harvest. The reaper is already receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life, so the sower and reaper can rejoice together" John 4:35-36.
The Samaritans, by their origin, they had been brought by Nebuchadnezzar after the destruction of the Kingdom of Israel; they were in open enmity with the Jews, but Jesus, with this teaching, declared that the Kingdom was for the last and not for the first. Eternal life, not happiness, is ultimately the true goal for those who accept Jesus as their savior, a reward that Jesus wants to give to all those who love him.
