Microsoft Cuckoo for Coco, are they trying to Hijack Ethereum?
Microsoft wants (or is ) developing the COCO (Common Objects in Context) framework to interact with the Ethereum blockchain.
According to Mark Russinovich (CTO) "Microsoft is committed to bringing blockchain to the enterprise". Microsoft feels that existing blockchain protocols fail to meet performance, confidentiality, governance, and required processing power. They want to step in with their COCO framework to act as a conduit and hub for smart contract processing/expediting.
Mark goes on to state that the COCO framework will
- Throughput and latency approaching database speeds.
- Richer, more flexible, business-specific confidentiality models.
- Network policy management through distributed governance.
- Support for non-deterministic transactions.
He continues by saying "Coco offers a trusted foundation with which existing blockchain protocols can be integrated".
It seems to me, that Microsoft wants to be the toll booth operator for the Global Ethereum blockchain network. They want everyone, globally to shift, and use this COCO framework to be the protocol for all side or sub chains, like smart contracts that are used in Ethereum.
Microsoft (typical global Fortune 100 company) sees that the future most definitely is in the blockchain and crypto's. Since they did not create the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchain networks, they simply want to move in and control the traffic of the blockchains. How nice of them to take a decentralized network and try to centralize it. According to them, after all, it will be good for the network and help smooth operations by having a centralized governance. If that isn't a crock of.
Yes the Bitcoin/Ethereum and other blockchain networks are way too valuable for the global corporations to sit back and let them be decentralized. They will find cleaver ways to try and hijack the networks and claim, in my opinion, that it is for the good of all. Be watchful and do not let them get away with their Trojan horse attempts. If they have good ideas for the growth and stability of the network fine. However, their ideas had better stay decentralized or we will loose perhaps the greatest technological gift mankind has ever seen to the few corrupt elites.
If I understand things correctly, just because they're trying to take control, doesn't mean we have to comply, right?
We can always choose to use #Plasma and/or any other protocols that are brought forth to be decentralized platforms, correct? Or?
Either way, we have to be diligent in our awareness to make sure the old dying system isn't able to come in and do this crap that MS is attempting to do...
The world is going decentralized and imho, there's really nothing they can do to stop us... We have many more choices now...
Thanks for the heads up, @jetblake... :)
While this is truer short-term, please remember, they are fighting for long term network effect of the second layer protocal -- Ultimately, there will be few that are mass adopted (like WordPress is to Internet CMS Systems).
I agree. I am so sick of the corrupt global establishment. I will fight them from trying to hijack crypto's and the block chain
I'm not feeling microsoft's move here, who knows though it could work out though.
I am not feeling it either
Considering that Windows is NSA-ware as detailed in Vault 7, yeah -- Not feeling it either, yet, enterprises may still love Microsoft :/
#CoCo allows corporations to make #Ethereum #subchains/ #sidechains to exist, in "centralized or decentralized" way, and in a "local or Internet" based network. This may [theoretically] increase adoption of Ethereum, since it needs Ethereum and Ether to work. Still, this whole subchain/sidechain business is strange, since each instance would have it's own centralized-control. Also, keep in mind that CoCo is competing with other protocols, maybe such as Vitalik's #Plasma.
I feel more comfortable with Plasma. Good points. Thank you very much for your reply. You are spot on
