How to mine Ethereum on a CPU (OSX)

in #ethereum7 years ago (edited)

In this tutorial, I am going to explain the procedure of mining Ethereum from your own CPU. I am using Mac OS for the demonstration but the method remains the same for Windows as well as Linux machines.

What is Ether?

Ether is a necessary element -- a fuel -- for operating the distributed application platform Ethereum. It is a form of payment made by the clients of the platform to the machines executing the requested operations. To put it another way, ether is the incentive ensuring that developers write quality applications (wasteful code costs more), and that the network remains healthy (people are compensated for their contributed resources). For more information on ether, visit this website.

Basic Hardware Requirements:

*. Any OS (Windows, Mac, Linux)
*. Min. 1GB RAM
*. Upto 10GB Free Memory Space

Steps to Mine Ethereum using CPU:

  1. Sign Up on this mining pool. (Link: http://bit.ly/minergatereg)
  2. Download the mining tool from their website based on the OS you are using.
  3. Install it.
  4. Open it and Login to your account.
  5. Click on 'Miner' tab. Search for Ether - 'ETH'.
  6. Click on 'Start Mining'.
