Ethereum Client Update Sets Byzantium Hard Fork Date

in #ethereum7 years ago

Byzantium Ether's new upgrade killer.

Ethereum's most popular client has upgraded its code to enforce the upcoming Byzantium upgrade set for later this month.

This code update from Go Ethereum (Geth) officially enshrines the anticipated hard fork for block number 4,370,000, a time previously established by ether's developers during an Ethereum core team discussion back in September 22. With the Geth release, Ethereum's network moves closer to implementing the first of two parts in the wider Metropolis upgrade.

The addition of the code to Geth is notable because it greatly increases the likelihood that the upgrade will happen at that time.

What is Ethereum Metropolis? The 4 Stages of Ethereum.

The 4 stages are as follows:

  • Frontier: This was what everyone got when Ethereum was first launched.
  • Homestead: The stage that we are on as of writing.
  • Metropolis: The upcoming phase.
  • Serenity: The final stage.

Still have no idea what Byzantium and Metropolis? Check out this link below.

More Info: Abuse Guide - 2017.

I would guess more info can be had by clicking on the link to "the ultimate guide" above guys. Having said that....

I'd love more info, laymans terms, what will this do to Eth, etc.

Thanks for the article @zeartul, I am in need of study on this to explore what it does to my position in Eth.

Long term, will make it a blockchain tech king. Short term profit monster.

"Short term profit monster."

That is certainly what I'm hoping for. I was solid in Eth & Btc with a good mix. As much as I wanted to buy in more on several coins during the last 2 drops....I resisted and just spent a smidge. This was because I set a not unsubstantial limit for what I would put into cryptocurrency....that I of course went over during these drops because....BUY, BUY.

Based on the fluctuation of Eth & Btc relative to each other, I've been playing with swapping them back and forth a little. Buy Btc with Eth....wait for them to balance, buy back Eth with Btc. Recently I've done this purchasing Eth in the hopes that it follows the reaction to the last HF and jumps up.

100% like last time would be awesome....but pretty much any upward move is success. Not planning to sell, just trade out and stabilize, hopefully ending up with more Btc & more Eth than before. How much more, or even if, remains to be seen.

Thanks again for the insight.

ETH blockchain will become more attractive for traders and investor because the Byzantium upgrade will add up privacy features onto the ETH blockchain.

ETH is bar far way ahead of any other blockchian out there. Byzantium is what is making ETH the king of crypto privacy was the leading cause of cryptocurrency expansion.

ETH is bar far way ahead of any other blockchian out there.

Yeah this is very true, i have read series of articles that denotes this...

Keep up the good work @zeartul

what do the 4 states do ? Can you please explain in lay men's terms ? Thanks

I need more explanation too.

For those that are curious, wonder how it will effect things, etc. Here are probably the two things most people want to know about the upcoming Hard Fork. From the article:

"So Ethereum is going to hard fork again? Will there be a third ethereum coin?

No, there won’t be. Because of the Ethereum-Ethereum Classic and the Bitcoin-Bitcoin Cash hardforks, people have started to assume that all hard forks are bound to cause chain splits. That is simply not the case.

The reason why those forks split the chain was because the changes proposed (the ethereum hardfork and the Segwit activation) were so controversial that not everyone was on board.

However, these upgrades have been unanimously agreed upon for a long time.

"So, is the value of ether going to go up?

We don’t know, we are not financial advisors. You need to do your own research before you invest in a coin. However, what we can say for sure is that they last time ethereum upgraded, the value went up >100%."

This is great info thank you for your thaughts and the link to that great guide to Metropolis.

I resteemed and also shared something I learned from that post.

I have an idea of what it is and thats really enough for me. I havent gotten into a deep dive of any crypto and just enjoy learning about the high level information for now, but really excited about the eth updates.
