Where can I get Ethereum Classic ( ETC )?

in #ethereumclassic8 years ago (edited)

This past weekend, Ethereuem Classic, ticker ETC, launched right before my eyes as I was browsing around on Poloniex.com, the cryptocurrency exchange.

Two notifications came up:
"All users who had an Ethereum balance at the moment of the fork now have a matching balance of ETC"
"ETC/BTC and ETC/ETH Ethereum Classic markets added. https://poloniex.com/exchange#btc_etc"

How do I get Ethereum Classic?
Coinspeaker.com says that the Ethereum Classic website says: "Everyone who had legacy ETH in your wallet pre-fork, now has an extra ‘bonus’: you have the same amount of classic ethers (ETC) on the same address. If you install Ethereum Classic client (better on a separate computer), you can use your coins on both chains! Just follow this advice to separate your legacy funds cleanly and avoid replay attack. If you held ETH balances with major exchanges: Bitfinex, Poloniex, Kraken, you have good news: they are going to assign you an equal amount ETC post-fork!”

For example, I had 50 ETC in my Poloniex account at the time of the hard fork and when the announcement came up, lo and behold, https://poloniex.com/balances showed me I had 50 Ethereum classic!!

If you also have a Poloniex account and had Ethereum in your account at the time of the hard fork, login and check to see if you've been credited ETC.

What if I had Ethereum, but am not on Poloniex?
If you don't have a Poloniex account, go ahead and create one. I've read that you can deposit your pre hard fork Ethereum into Poloniex who will then credit you the corresponding Ethereum Classic.

The sure way to get Ethereum Classic is to trade for it on Poloniex.com You'd have to create an account with Poloniex, then send yourself Bitcoin or Ethereum to yourself (click Deposit on https://poloniex.com/balances). Once confirmed, you can then trade for Ethereum Classic.

How do I purchase Bitcoin or Ethereum?
If you are a US resident, coinbase.com is an easy way to purchase Bitcoin and Ethereum so that you can fund your Poloniex account in order to access Ethereum Classic and a variety of other altcoins.

Where can I learn more about Ethereum Classic?
Here's an extremely comprehensive resource: https://ethereumclassic.github.io/

About me:
I'm a fellow altcoin enthusiast and will try to reply to comments and questions as best as I can!
While I mention Poloniex a lot, I am not affiliated with them. I've just found them to be a well built platform that's easy to use from both my phone and computer.

I'll find time to write a post explaining what I like about the platform.
