Last day working from home tomorrow... Nooooooo.

I just finished a 3.8km run that lasted about 0hh:23mm:57ss !

Let me just tell you that if you ever have the opportunity to work from home... take it. It's amazing!
I'm so much more productive at home... my time working in offices is mainly getting called into meetings I probably don't need to be in, and having people land at my desk. My most hated office routine was working all day.. and then when I'd stand up to leave, the people around me would suddenly be reminded that they had a ton of questions to ask me... Working from home involves way less meetings, I still do one or two video conferences a day, but I dunno, people just don't invite you to as many things when you're not physically in the room.

Tomorrow will be my last day working from home... Wednesday I fly all day to Barbados, and then the next 10 days or so I work from a hotel. I'll try to work from the lobby or little business area if they have one... I go a bit crazy when I spend too many hours in my room.

I'll get back on a Saturday, and start in my new office on Monday. I'm really excited and totally nervous about the new job. It's so different to everything I've done before. So much learning to be had! I've got to remember that it might take me weeks or months not to feel like a dummy...

I actually got my fastest time I might have ever gotten. Still walked that last hill, but everything else was fast. Taking the weekend off was a huge help, and being totally distracted by travel logistics helped too. I don't think I'll get to run my hill route much from now on... I'm not really sure how the logistics of my life are going to work...

Dear Mr @exhaust, are there any particular Android apps that @exhaust enjoys? I might have to download something for future runs since I won't know the distances.

working from home does take a lot of discipline as there are so many temptation which tries to pull you away from your desk. haha .. but it takes awhile to get used to like any other work. so you are going back to a desk job ? or staying mobile ?

No, I'm full on moving back to a desk job... and because I'll be the new kid on the block I'll have to really put in a good effort and keep my head down.

There are a lot of temptations, but I dunno, I just get into the zone a lot better at work, I guess because I can set everything up exactly as I need it, it works for me. I find the office far more distracting... so many conversations going on around me. I don't know what my new office will be like though, and I have a feeling I'll probably spend the majority of my time in meetings.

Oh man -- I'm actually ultra-unproductive at home. Toooo many distractions. What's takin' you to Barbados? Vacation time!?

I've got my study space, and I dunno, when I'm in it then I'm just in work-mode. There's something about just walking into that room that just primes the brain for work time. I can't work in front of the TV like my partner can, I have to be away from everything.. and have to put on headphones if she's got the TV going while I'm working.... but I also don't have cute little furguys checking up on me so I imagine that makes it way easier.

No, not a vacation at all. I have to transfer my work visa from one company to another, and for that I need to have a 5 minute interview at a US Embassy outside of the US. Vancouver BC is a 50 minute flight, but the 6 US Embassies in Canada are all booked up for months... so I have to go to Barbados if I want my visa transferred before September.

I really should have got you to put in a good word for me. I'm a good guy, really.

Congratulations on the new role, mate. Enjoy Barbados, sounds lovely :)

Thanks! There's definitely worse places to go to get a visa-renewal. This photo is messing with my mind... so disembodied!

Could not agree more about working from home. I have taken the leap into complete independence now. Just a traveling nomad for the next few years with my family. Best of luck with the new job.

Complete independence is definitely the way to go. I ran my own IT company for over a decade in Australia, and it was awesome (annoying at times obviously, but ultimately awesome) but now I'm in the US I have to be an employee for my work visa. It's been a great few years working from home, and I'll miss it, but it'll be nice to get back amongst it too.

Hey brotha! For an Android App, I would highly recommend using RunnerUp! I've been using it for a while.

Currently, you can save any GPX / TCX (gps tracking files) to your phone for upload to EXHAUST, and you can also sync the app and connect to Strava / RunKeeper/ Nike+ / and a couple others.

My short term plan, since this is an open-source app (see git here) is to update the code w/ a pullrequest so you can upload directly to EXHAUST from the app... Eventually, maybe make a fork of the App to change the front-end so it can be a launchpad for a new EXHAUST android app...

I know you got some JS skills, bruh. If you wanted to sink into this -- it might be rewarding...

Excellent! Thank you! This is great info! I'll get onto RunnerUp and hopefully come in first place.

My JS skills are dismal... I just haven't kept up the practice at all. I really need to get back into it.

Comfy on finally getting it. I assume you've signed a contract now. Looking forward to hearing about Barbados!

Thanks thanks! It's been so forever...
I'm at the airport now waiting to start my 15 hours to Barbados... should be super fun.
@rustle is still at home though, I'm travelling super light because American airlines hate bags with a passion.

I love working from home, one of the reasons I ran my own business for a while 😆 (but that’s also a pain 🙄)

Enjoy the stint in Barbados and yay new job 😄

Haha, so many pains... not the least BAS... but it is all pretty amazing.

I honestly have no idea how I'll go back working amongst the people. I assume well, since I spent the vast majority of my career hanging with dudes and chicks at desks... but now that I've seen the light....

You'll be fine :D

Though if you find you liked working from home more you'll just have to get a more flexible job xD

I predict you getting a warning from HR in the first month for using the office as a ninja gym after hours.

Keep your mindset optimistic. Maybe you'll like being in an office this time around. Hopefully crypto will help you buy your own office eventually. Good luck.

Haha, thanks dude! I honestly don't have a lot of crypto, it just doesn't really make sense to me to invest while I still have a home loan outstanding... but yes, I fully intend to make the whole place a ninja gym... can't start a meeting without everyone doing some tricep dips first... get those brains firing.

I am actually excited about all the new changes... it definitely feels like a test that I definitely have to crush.
