적군의 언어/Enemy’s Language

서울 아트선재센터에서 진행한 ‘적군의 언어’전시를 보고 왔습니다. 포스트 아포칼립스 분위기라 밤에 가는 게 좋을 듯하여 마지막으로 진행한 야간 개장 전시로 다녀왔습니다.
솔직한 평은 오전에 국현미를 보고 와서 그런지 큰 감흥은 없었고 영화 세트장을 생각하면 대수롭지 않다는 생각이 들더군요. 공간 전체가 작품이었는데 공간이 협소해서 일까요. 혹시나싶어 화장실 문도 열어보는 사람들을 보면 공간이 좀 부족했던 전시같다는 생각이 듭니다. 차라리 아주 넓은 한 층에서 이루어졌다면 그 공간감이 주는 아폴칼립스의 공허한 느낌을 더 잘 줄 수 있지 않았을까 싶네요.

I visited The Language of the Enemy exhibition at Art Sonje Center in Seoul. Because of its post-apocalyptic atmosphere, I thought it would be better to see it at night, so I went during the final late-night opening.

To be honest, perhaps because I had visited the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art earlier that day, it didn’t leave a strong impression on me. Thinking of it as a film set, it didn’t feel particularly striking. The entire space functioned as a single artwork, but maybe because the venue was quite small, the impact felt limited. Seeing visitors opening even the restroom doors just in case made me feel that the exhibition lacked sufficient space.

I couldn’t help but think that if it had taken place on a much larger, open floor, the sense of emptiness and desolation characteristic of a post-apocalyptic world could have been conveyed more effectively.
