The app, created by Alex Zhu and Luyu Yang, was actually aimed to be an educational app; in which users would upload videos of 2-3 minutes (by live broadcasting, as musically is doing now) teaching anything they wish to.
This did not work well and the creators dropped the idea and thus, a revolution was born.

This app, targeted at young generation (teenagers esp) made it successful worldwide.

Any teenagers dream; to look like their pop idols, dance to their songs and get famous among their circle by making short videos, was the basic strategy for this app’s success.

Various companies are also promoting their products in this app, which are a sure shot hit marketing strategy by impressing young minds.

According to TechCrunch, Musical.ly is Raising $100 Million at $500 Million Valuation.
