Fact about :- Einstein

If Einstein was not known for Theoretical Physics, he would probably be know for Refrigerators.

From 1926 to 1933 Einstein worked with Szilárd to improve home refrigeration technology. In 1926, Einstein read a newspaper article about an entire family in Germany that had been killed by a leak from their refrigerator. Refrigerators at the time used lethal gases, such as methyl chloride and sulfur dioxide, as coolants. Einstein was deeply affected by the tragedy, and together with Szilard set out to design a safe refrigerator without any moving part by eliminating the mechanical compressor and toxic gases. They filed approximaely 45 patent for refrigerator technology in six countries.

The Einstein–Szilard or Einstein refrigerator is an absorption refrigerator which has no moving parts, operates at constant pressure, and requires only a heat source to operate. No moving parts is a real benefit because it can carry on going without maintenance.

The design was partly used in the first domestic refrigerators, but the technology was abandoned when more efficient compressors became popular in the 1950s. But now people at Oxford are trying to bring back the technology, to develop more robust appliances that can be used in places without electricity.
