LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE BEFORE MEN
FRIDAY 25
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)

Now the admonition comes, you should let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
When you practice the Bible, live in line with it; your light is being made to shine before men.
What people call good works at times might not be good works in the sight of God. Good works mainly are about
things done that would lead to the glorification of God’s name. What some people do for self-aggrandizement are
not considered to be good works at all by God.
If you do a charitable deed to promote and announce yourself, that is not a good work in God’s sight (Matthew
6:1–4). Although, people might praise you, talk good of you, but you have received whatever reward that could
have been given to you by God; because of the praise of men (Matthew 6:1–4).
Good works in the sight of God are the things you do that God might be honoured and praised and glorified: “ . . . THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN” (Matthew 5:16).
What would lead to your self being praised is not a good work, it is a show of ego. Whatever the good work you may be doing, its main purpose should be for the glorification of God’s name (Matthew 5:16).
In other words, the good works that you are projecting or displaying outwardly for people to see should be mainly for God to be glorified.
If your good works or deeds are meant to fan your ego, such are not considered good works in the sight of God. If what you are doing does not make people say, We thank God for your life or for what you are being used to do, then, the work is for self-aggrandizement.
All the glory should be given to God as a result of whatever good work you are doing—no single glory should be attributed to yourself.
17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
18 LET THEM DO GOOD, THAT THEY BE RICH IN GOOD WORKS, READY TO GIVE, WILLING TO SHARE,
19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”
