THE HUMBLE
"THE HUMBLE HE GUIDES IN JUSTICE, AND THE HUMBLE HE TEACHES HIS WAY."
Psalm 25:9 (NKJV)
Humility is a choice. It is what you deliberately choose to be or cultivate. Humility is not gotten by impartation!
Thus, humility or meekness is an important attribute that every believer in Christ should choose to cultivate or imbibe and develop.
Note:
• According to our text, when you are humble or meek, God would be willing to guide you in the affairs of life (Psalm 25:9).
• Also, when you are humble or meek, you would be taught the ways of God (Psalm 25:9; 103:7).
No wonder, God made His ways known to Moses because he was said to be the humblest or meekest man on the earth: "NOW THE MAN MOSES WAS VERY HUMBLE, MORE THAN ALL MEN WHO WERE ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH" (Numbers 12:3 NKJV).
Through this humility that was found in Moses' life, we could see that God was not hesitant to show His ways to him: "HE [God] MADE KNOWN HIS WAYS TO MOSES, HIS ACTS TO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL" (Psalm 103:7 NKJV).
When you are humble, God would be there for you, at all time, to defend you.
• God would be there to avenge for His elects, particularly those who are humble: "WHEN HE AVENGES BLOOD, HE REMEMBERS THEM [the humble]; HE DOES NOT FORGET THE CRY OF THE HUMBLE" (Psalm 9:12).
• God would not shut His ears to the cry of the humble—He listens to them when they call: "HAVE MERCY ON ME, O LORD! CONSIDER MY TROUBLE FROM THOSE WHO HATE ME, YOU WHO LIFT ME UP FROM THE GATES OF DEATH" (Psalm 9:13).
• Another thing is that your level of humility determines your depth in God.
In other words, God is always at home to commune with believers who are humble—He guides the humble or meek (Psalm 25:9).
• God also teach the humble to make profits. Remember, the humble is the person who is ready to embrace God's Will or plan—such are the ones He teaches to make profits (Psalm 32:8; Isaiah 48:17).
Who is the humble?
• The humble are those who are not charting a course for themselves. Those who are ready to accept what God says about their lives and are ready to follow Him as He leads (Psalm 32:8).
• Someone who is humble is someone who reverentially fear God. And those who fear God are the ones He reveals His secrets to (Psalm 25:14).
• The humble also are those who yielded not to the dictates of the flesh, but want to do God's Will as being led by the Holy Spirit and the Scripture through the recreated human spirit of them (Galatians 5:16,24,25).
What makes you a humble person, or what are the characteristics that are peculiar to the humble:
• One of attributes or characteristics of an humble person is the love for truth.
At times, it is baffling to see some so-called believers who hate the truth.
There are people who do not want the truth at all, even among the professed believers: "WE ARE OF GOD. HE WHO KNOWS GOD HEARS US; HE WHO IS NOT OF GOD DOES NOT HEAR US. BY THIS WE KNOW THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH AND THE SPIRIT OF ERROR" (1 John 4:6 NKJV).
Howbeit, whoever hates or evades the truth has no place in God's kingdom.
• Also remember, the proud are resisted by God: “GOD RESISTS THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE” (James 4:6).
God is at war with the proud at all time.
One misconception that should be corrected is; you should know that humility has nothing to do with someone's outlook.
• Humility is not how you dress or greet people but of the heart. In other words, you might not be able to read or see humility in the outlook of someone—it is of the heart.
• Humility is not how sanctimoniously or piously you look—it is of the heart.
• Humility is of the heart as well as pride! Although, If you are truly humble in your heart it can be read or deduced outwardly but at times it does not subject to that.
I have seen believers who are outspoken and boastful of their heritage in Christ Jesus and are purely and genuinely humble in their hearts.
Whilst there are some believers who are piously or sanctimoniously in their outlook but they have a truckload of pride in their hearts.
That is why the Scripture says God does not judge by outward appearance of someone: "BUT THE LORD SAID TO SAMUEL, “DO NOT LOOK AT HIS APPEARANCE OR AT HIS PHYSICAL STATURE, BECAUSE I HAVE REFUSED HIM. FOR THE LORD DOES NOT SEE AS MAN SEES; FOR MAN LOOKS AT THE OUTWARD APPEARANCE, BUT THE LORD LOOKS AT THE HEART" " (1 Samuel 16:7 NKJV).
Thus, If you look at the benefits of humility they are far outweighed being prideful.
• Through humility; you would be guided in justice by God (Psalm 25:9).
• You would be taught the ways of God (Psalm 25:9; 103:7).
• You would be guided and be taught to make profits in life (Psalm 32:8; Isaiah 48:17).
• You would eat and be satisfied (Psalm 22:26).
• You would inherit the earth (Psalm 37:11).
Thus, be humble—embrace humility!
Peace!
