Vaccinations given in Schools; Do Parents have a choice?
This happened on Tuesday morning when I get a call from my sister that her daughter, my niece who is 12 is running down with high temperature, the previous night she felt dizzy and had fits and from there on it all started.
It was a tensed moment as this whole year our family has been having some or the other problems related to health. Looks like this year has been set aside for all of us specially to deal with health challenges.
She was immediately rushed to hospital, doctors did some regular test and mentioned she had viral inflection. With some medications she was sent home. We felt relieved, after coming back home my sister was taking good care of her but in a couple of hours her temperature again started rising and she was again rushed to hospital. There they did some further more test and blood test and eventually confirmed she had Dengue.
Dengue has become very common now but still when you get to know of someone so close to you getting, its frightening. But now we knew what the problem was that was one good thing. She was immediately put on the line of treatment. The doctor said that her Dengue was in the initial stage but the reason of her getting seizure the previous night is unknown and a matter of concern.
I was checking with my sister on what has been different for her in the last few months. If there was any medicine given to her or anything that was not regular and was out of the routine. She mentioned that 2 months back in their school a Vaccination of Rubella was given to her. When I heard this it gave me a little jittery feeling. Rubella vaccines have a lot of side effects, it may not effect everyone but the ones who get effected the symptoms are bad. It effects the gut and can also damage the brain of children. It can cause dangerous effects on children which can result in to autism or also a death.
Don't the school read all of this even before taking such a decision and implementing it all through out in the school. even if there is a 1% chance of any severe implications of any vaccines which are so clearly mentioned out there, why would they want to take a risk. Now I have a sadder part to it. When I highlighted this to my sister she is unable to accept and believe that vaccination can be the reason. She has an argument with me that why only her and why did other children not get effected. Now in the first place she would not even know if any other child in the school must have got impacted. There are so many children in the school and it will not be possible to do that. Unless the school takes some action. Well but this is the problem with most of the parents that they are not able to break through their years old belief systems and face the truth. Specially when something so clearly is mentioned out there. Since then I have been sending her a lot of readings on how vaccinations can harm you but I guess she chooses to ignore.
Well this is the battle we all have to fight to make our own dear ones understand what's in their favor and what's manipulated.
As far as the schools are concerned they should leave this decision to the parents if they would like to go ahead with the vaccinations after giving them the pros and cons of it. There are many parents who are not well read enough and they have no idea of what's going out there in the world, but the school can do these checks if they are taking any steps which they believe is in the welfare of the children. At the same time the parents even if they are not very literate or well read should do some research on what is being administered on their child.
In my niece case it is very doubtful what could be the reason, but she absolutely has no medical history or ever anything so unusual happening to her so my mind absolutely goes in this direction that the only unusual thing that has happened with her is the vaccination which again clearly mentions the side effects of it and only that can be the reason.
I hope that institutions who administer these practices become more responsible of what they are doing and also become accountable for their actions. As of now my family is only praying and working towards our little one getting cured at the earliest and coming out of it without any more side effects.

I didn't like the hepatitus B shot in elementary, what they thought I would be promiscuous or addict? Some could be said no to
I only had 2 vaccinations which I had taken by the age of 2 and I am perfectly healthy and fine, But now there is a long list of vaccinations that the doctors give and they continue till the age of 13 and 14.

I remember this vaccination activity when I was in grade 1. Our teacher made us form a line for a vaccination of some sort I do not know what it was.
The nurse (I think) is using only one syringe that is disinfected only with a flame of a candle.
Now I thought it was the reason I am positive for Hepatitis B. It changed my life after. @nainaztengra
Oh my God that's really scary, and it is so sad such a thing happened with you. These people don't think much before taking any action and the consequences have to be borne by children :-(

Thank you @jhoni
Very strange that school is taking such steps without prior parent approval. I belive it is parents responsibility to have all the medication done at the time of birth...there are few set of vaccination that covered a child. In case school is so concerned about child health then they should inform parents to get the vaccination done of own. The parents will then make sure to get a second review along with other check. This is solely my propective

@steemflow, there is nothing like approval. They only inform the parents and sadly most of the parents hardly have any knowledge about vaccines, they just think vaccination is good and hence never raise any concern.
I messed it....my poor hinnglish...i mean parents consent. I came since ilar post few months ago too from different author...but the concern was same

Do parents have a choice not to enroll their children in public schools? Who do the children belong to?
True, there is not much of an option left for parents. It's all a vicious circle. Parents want to stay ignorant with what is happening around in the world. Everyone is busy with parties and celebrations all the time. There are very few parents who really act responsibly towards their kids. This is the Indian scenario
In my country, talking from the legal aspect, parents don't have many choices if any at all. The thing is that by our law parents are obligated to vaccinate the children and if they don't they can get penalized (from money fine, a jail sentence up to that children could be taken away from the parents and family by social service). That's the ugly side.
From a bit brighter side, luckily any pediatrician (or at least most of them) do not stick blindly to this legislative, leaving the parents a choice to refuse the vaccination without reporting them to the authorities. Although, some might make severe pressure or even throw threats toward parents.
There is also a big movement against current laws in this regard. Associations formed around the cause (as some others too) protest loudly demanding to abolish the law and giving parents at least the opportunity to choose if they want or not to vaccinate their child without being threatened with above-mentioned possible repercussions.
A few days ago a big protest in this regard had been held. It was nice to see a lady, who is a medical doctor otherwise, leading the protest explaining possible consequences through her own case and admitting how blind she was until it happened to her child. That raises the hope for a possible sooner change.
However, in this particular case of your niece, I don't think it's connected with vaccination. As first the girl was vaccinated 2 months ago. If that's something directly connected with it, it would show up earlier. The only impact that this past vaccination might have in this particular situation is lowering her overall immune system for fighting against the current disease.
All of that, even more, because of the Dengue is a viral disease which incubation period is (2-10 days) way shorter than 2 months in the first place, what would also mean that the vaccine contained the virus what is highly unlikely. The only exception is if the vaccination that she received was against the Dengue, as then of course vaccine had a small portion of the virus as otherwise, it wouldn't be the vaccination. But she could also have been bitten by infected mosquito anytime, anywhere without even noticing.
That's why (from the information you've provided) I don't think this particular case has anything to do with her previous vaccination.
I also believe while it's important that we know more about this things, have the freedom to choose not only to vaccinate or not but as well with what kind of vaccines, when, how often, etc., it's also important that we stay rational and avoid to jump to conclusions that might not have much sense.
That's a very good sign in your country that people are waking up to at least taking their own decisions. And the Doctor's supporting parents is another advantage.
With my niece the problem we do not see with the Dengue fever, but she has started getting seizures lately which is of a concern. The doctor's say they are unable to identify the reason for that. Sometime back she also had a sudden fall, so all of this is bothering us and taking our minds to the vaccination. She has never had such an issue in the past. Once she is out of Dengue completely then we will get her overall check up done to see what is the cause of it.
mmm sad to hear this.. well you KNOW what i am going to say dont you!!
Grrrr.. OF COURSE ITS THE VACCINATION!!
dont doubt yourself, and .. well what can we do.. this is the world we live in .. IF we stay in cities and the mainstreem system that is..
i CAN understand schools not asking parents, ONLY because i can also understand that the AVERAGE parent has no clue what is good or bad for their kids, or anything about vaccinations..
but SOME DO.. like you.. but sadly you are in the minority..
SURELY in the USA at least you could sue them!!! that might change thing a bit! <33
That's the saddest part that even when we try to educate people around us they give a deaf ear thinking how can a common person like me have any such knowledge. For most of the people Doctors are the ultimate. like god and their word is final.
Very sorry to hear your niece has been so unwell, it must be a terribly worrying time for all the family. Vaccinations can always have unexpected consequences, while after such a great amount of time it seems unlikely to be directly linked to the new illness - but could still be a contributing factor. Vaccinations should always be a choice for a parents not enforced, so they can make their own informed decision using the information given.

That's correct a choice should be given to the parents to decide if they want to go ahead. Then whatever the consequences are it is for them to own it up.
