Father's Day
This year my birthday fell on Father's Day in Australia. My family decided since it was all on one day that we'd make it a birth-father's day weekend. We spent Saturday in at Southbank. It's one of my favourite places in the city.
Southbank, as it's name suggests, is the Southern Bank of the Brisbane River. The CBD is on the other side of the river so there are some great views of the city skyscrapers. The river is an access-way for commuters by using the city cats as you can see in the photo.
In Southbank there is a "beach" - a pool with sand made to resemble one of Queensland's fabulous beaches. We saw a showin at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre - "George's Marvellous Medicine"by Roald Dahl. Afterwards we
ventured over to the pool. The kids *may" have ended up in the pool in there clothes... YOLO right??
On Sunday we ventured just over an hour north of our house to Bribie Island. "Bribie" is one of my favourite places in the world. It's an unspoilt beachscape where you can see dolphins and turtles from the shoreline.
Even thought it was only the second day of spring, the kids & I went for a swim in the ocean. There's something spiritually refreshing for me swimming in the ocean. I enjoy the salt water & waves. We could see little fish swimming around our legs in the water this morning!
After the swim we had some fresh Moreton Bay prawns (caught locally) and some fish & chips by the Pumicestone Passage. I love seafood and there's no better place to eat seafood than by the sea! And on my birthday & Father's Day.
There were plenty of families spending time together. Bribie is a great place to go fishing, there are usually whiting, flathead & bream in the passage. You can fish with the Glasshouse Mountains in the background like in this photo.
So all in all I had a wonderful weekend with my beautiful young family. It's times like this that I pause to be thankful for how lucky I am to have a happy and healthy family.
Enjoy and Have Fun with Family..
Thanks - I did :-)
Excellent positive about Australia! Usually reading news about Australia in them they talk about fires, cubomedus, snakes and insects.
Haha! Yeah there is some good stuff here too :-)
