Seaside Fun - the Pleasure Beach

in #family5 years ago

My eldest daughter is approaching 9 and is starting to leave her quiet, timid self behind. Over the past few days she has voiced a desire to ride the "Scenic Railway" located as our local Pleasure Beach which is a sea front fair ground.

The Scenic Railway is a good old fashioned roller coaster which was built in 1932 and is constructed of fir and pine. It's a great and some what rickety experience. It's amazing how fast 45mph can feel when open to the elements. The ride here in Great Yarmouth is one of only 8 of its type left in the world requiring a brakeman to control the speed of the cars as they hurtle around the track.

Elder daughter did pretty well! She enjoyed the vast majority of the ride but looked a little concerned during the big dip which sends your head in all sorts of directions due the the forces on the body. The first set of double dips sends one out of their chair for a moment or two but she handled that pretty well.

Here you can take a ride with Coaster Crazy on YouTube.

For those of you who are fans of Madness this is the Scenic Railway that appears in the House of Fun music video.

She will be wanting bigger thrills soon. These things can get addictive. Can you keep up?
