People we need
In the province of Ontario, the Child Services system is a complete nightmare.
Children are apprehended for reasons stemming from being low income, to being related to someone else in the system so might as well take you too.
In that system there are actually two branches of people that try to help.
The people above, Child advocates fight on behalf of the kids to make sure they’re taken care of and they have access to support.
Last week funding cuts shut their offices down.
Today I woke up to an email from friends on Ontario telling me that it’s getting worse.
The department of social services has people whose job it is to go out and visit the homes to make sure that the Children are being taken care of.
I’ve mentioned before there aren’t enough safeties in place for these kids, and the people who are supposed to supervise the children are way below what’s needed to protect those kids.
Ontario just gutted that department.
One city alone just outside Toronto had to fire 26 people. Brantford? No idea where it is compared to Toronto but everything Ontario is just outside of Toronto.
That’s a huge number of people to lose... when they’re already gutted of safety inspectors.
I also wonder where the advocates are going to go, My hope is there’s private charities they can access and keep working; Their expertise of the system is valuable.
