Tips so you can start your aromatic garden without problems. (@FARMS)
After this the branch is placed in a pot with moist soil and pressed lightly to stabilize it, for best results it is convenient to make at least 5 or 6 cuttings of the plant you want to reproduce, since not all will take root. Some ideal and easy-to-use aromatic herbs that you can make cuttings are: lemon verbena, basil, mint, mint, bay leaf, marjoram, mint, oregano, rosemary, sage and thyme.
Transition in winter
After about a month of having made our cuttings, you can see which ones have survived. Although the growth during the first months will be very slow, since the new plant is using its energy to produce roots. When winter begins we must protect our plants. The protection will depend on where we are, temperatures below 7 ° C may affect our plants. We can take them inside the house, garage, a window or create a small greenhouse to protect them during the coldest weeks
Adequate light, water and temperature for its growth
The vast majority of aromatic herbs like to be well watered, that is, with good humidity, but not excessively. This is why our pots must have good drainage. We must water when the top layer of the soil looks dry or learn to judge the moisture by the weight of the pots. If our soil is very dense or heavy, we can add sand, vermiculite or tezontle to have better drainage.
You will have to learn to calculate the water, light and temperature of the plants. All plants will have different requirements depending on the pot in which they are, the substrate, the size of the plant, the amount of light and temperature you need, that is why we have to be aware of them and very attentive to their needs.
The prevention of pests
When the soil is sick, with pests or diseases, you can change the soil without hurting the plant. To prevent diseases in the soil, you can also apply a chamomile tea and water it around the affected plant or soil. In the same way another organic way to eliminate or reduce diseases in the soil is to plant garlic cloves in the pot or soil, since this acts as a natural repellent.
To avoid having problems with pests, the irrigation, temperature and light they receive should be maintained in optimum conditions. The plants are weakened if any of these factors is deficient or is in excess, that is why the soil mixture you use for your aromatic herbs should have good drainage. You can buy prepared mixture for pot that is very useful and easy and then add compost. Or make your own mix, with equal parts of black earth and leafy soil, add compost at the end.
