Feathered Friday: Birds that Love Fast Foods

Living on an Island there are always lots of seagulls around. They can be found on the shore and in the water or waiting at a fast food place to see if anyone will throw out a french fry or another tidbit of food.





Seagull do not seem to be afraid of humans and will wait patiently close by to see if you will sympathize and throw them a treat.

Although mainly shore birds, they are scavengers but do keep garbage cleaned up around town.

There are three species of gulls on PEI, Canada; the herring gull, ring-billed gulls and great black backed gulls.

These two I will identify as the herring gull because of the characteristic red spot on the lower beak. The adult herring gull is mainly grey and white with black on the wing tips.





Seagull and Canada geese seem to mingle freely.





Seagulls and Canada geese by the Wood islands Lighthouse in the evening. I think they are getting together for an union meeting for human to be more generous in handling over leftovers and not consider them a nuisance. :)





Seagulls can live a long time. There is a record of one living twenty years. I think that proves fast foods can’t be that bad for one’s health and longevity. :)
