It is processed and contains hardly any of the beneficial good bacteria needed to have any effect. Doing it yourself is the only way to know what's in it but also to assure effectiveness for your gut flora.
Make in glass only
Watch the lids that are metal or other like material try to switch to glass or use a glass topper instead
Use only wooden utensils
Use sole salt
Use turbinado raw sugar
Be creative with flavor and spices and make a lot of different fermentation
