Prologue: The Elevator
Rain was pouring down outside as if the floodgates of heaven had opened up. I was a zombie, with only cocaine and caffeine to thank for my ability to function. My boss was on my ass about a last minute project dumped on me due to one of my former coworkers getting arrested. I had pulled three all-nighters to try to get the piece of shit done. I had a box of paperwork in my hands with additional paperwork needed to get the project done. The elevator music and subtle chatter was driving nails to my migraine inflicted brain. Kathy from Human Resources was taking up most of the elevator space, stinking it up with her nauseous hygiene. She claims that expecting her to bathe is misogynistic and rape. I don’t want to live, but I don’t want to die either. All I can do is stand in this crowded elevator, and inch towards the inevitable end.
As I sat there, letting the idle chatter, repetitive music, crowded space, and utter stench grate away my sanity, I start to hear bloodcurdling screams, almost as if some deity had heard my pleas, and had come to end it all. Kathy backs up into me, more scared than a rabbit being pursued by hunters. As I am suffocated by fat and stench, a large explosion is briefly heard, as the elevator plummets down the skyscraper, towards the unavoidable void.
