The Story You Help Write: The Case of The Halloween Creeper Part 3

in #fiction6 years ago

Welcome to the story you help write. Steemit is a fun community where I love to interact with people. I also love to write fiction and have fun with all my friends. With stories you help write, you become a participant in an exciting adventure where you choose the path to solving a mystery.

Remember when you were a kid how some books let you chose what happened next? They'd give you choices as to the next step in the story. You'd pick a path, flip to a specified page, and your story would be different depending on the choices you made. That's the goal of the story you help write. I write a chapter to a story and you leave me comments telling me what you think happens next. In the next part of the story I'll write your ideas into the tale and might even include you as a character.

Part 3

Detective Angus Pinkerton sat is his office with a concerned look on his face. His partner Marx the rabbit ( @marxrab ) hadn't been in contact all day. This was strange for the loud and hyper rabbit. The two had been investigating the theft of Halloween Decorations all over town. After interviewing people at the local party supply store that had been robbed of fake skeletons, witches brooms, and candy, Marx and the detective parted ways. That was the last Pinkerton heard from his friend.

Pinkerton had called Marx's cell phone several times but it just rang and rang then went to voicemail. Marx had never not answered her phone before. A feeling of dread came over the detective. Something was not right. Deciding to stop by Marx's apartment, Detective Pinkerton left his office to see if she was home.

Arriving at Marx's apartment, Detective Pinkerton found local baker Edna (aka @kiwideb ) from the Whole Foods Cafe. She was beating on the door yelling for Marx. Her face was frowning and she looked shaken.

"What's going on Edna? Where's Marx," said Pinkerton.

"I have no idea. I'm trying to find her. I'm very scared something has happened. This morning I found a basket filled with strange ingredients in it with a note someone is very angry with Marx for investigating the Halloween thefts. The note told me that if I ever want to see my friend again I have to use the strange ingredients to bake Halloween cookies. Once I have the cookies I'm suppose to give them to people around the city. I'm afraid the strange ingredients come from a witch and will hurt people. I called Marx but she won't answer her cell phone. I figured I'd come to her home thinking maybe it's one of her famous Halloween pranks."

"I take it that she's not answering your knocks?"

"No, and no one in the neighborhood has seen her all day."

Pinkerton pulled out his trusty lock pick and decided to break into Marx's apartment. Maybe there was a clue inside as to where she went. No one was inside as Edna and the detective looked around. Logging into Marx's computer, Pinkerton looked at her recent search history but found nothing but searches for carrot recipes. Noticing a find my phone feature on Marx's computer, Pinkerton checked to see if Marx's phone was linked up to it to see if he could get GPS coordinates.

Getting his first lucky break in a while, Marx's phone was on and the GPS coordinates were listed. Marx's phone was at a place called Mike's Maid Service and Funeral Parlor. Detective Pinkerton stared at the businesses name. Then, he stared some more. Maid service and funeral parlor? Who does that? And why was Marx at such a strange place.

Knowing it must have something to do with the Halloween decoration theft case, Detective Pinkerton headed to the location of Marx's phone.

Arriving at Mike's Maid Service and Funeral Parlor, Detective Pinkerton was greeted by an odd sight. A maid who was well endowed was standing outside the building tossing jelly beans into the air while hooting and hollering. She seemed to be having a good time. Occasionally, she would shout, "Come To Mike's For All Your Funeral and Maid Service Needs."

Detective Pinkerton stood across the street watching the maid acting crazy. His eyes kept going to her well endowed chest as she jumped up and down. Snapping himself out of staring at the maid's chest, Detective Pinkerton walked across the street to enter the building. Through the front windows he could see a clown inside with lots of balloons, a few skeletons, and coffins with big price tags on them saying 80% off. Balloons littered the floor. It was like someone had a huge Halloween party but was trying to sell coffins at the same time.

Entering the building, the detective smelled pumpkin pie and candy which was surprising. Normally funeral parlors smell chemically and not so wonderful. The detective's mouth watered at the smell of pies. The clown was standing in the corner crying as the detective entered.

Hands over his eyes, the clown kept muttering through his tears, "I didn't mean to do it. I didn't mean to do it. Oh, I've messed up so badly."

Pinkerton coughed to let his presence be known. The clown looked up startled. Turning to see the detective, the clowns sad eyes changed to look angry.

To Be Continued....

What do you think happens next? Is Marx okay? How do clowns, Halloween supply thefts, and a strange combo business all connect?
