Law & fidelity in the Bible: I have many enemies and oppressors, but I do not fail to obey your laws. Psalm 119:157

Throughout its long history, the nation of Israel has faced numerous instances of oppression, destruction, and injustice. The land of Canaan, and later Israel, has always been a geographical enclave between Asia and Africa, and all the great empires, such as the Persian, Babylonian, and Assyrian, fought fiercely for its control. And this is one of the geopolitical reasons why the kingdoms of Judah and Israel were militarily destroyed in ancient times.
It is logical that, given this situation, one of the most important Psalms in the Bible, Psalm 119, makes mention of this problem. And Psalm 119 reminds bible readers that in the land of Israel, oppression was always the result of the disobedience to the law of Moses; oppression is one of the curses mentioned in the Book of Deuteronomy. This is why the author of Psalm 119 expressed the need to live in peace and happiness, reminding Bible readers that the source of these spiritual blessings is obedience to the law, and that oppression vanishes when the faithful are protected by the Lord, with these words: "I have many enemies and oppressors, but I do not fail to obey your laws" Psalm 119:157.
This expression from the Book of Psalms reminds the believers of the need for the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion), because the fulfillment of the first and second commandments depends on this important spiritual gift. In other words, the validity of the entire Law of Moses, along with its blessings, crumbled when the Israelites abandoned a heart of flesh to give in to the hardness of the heart and the love of money. And this is a spiritual truth that was warned about from the institution of the judges created by Moses to the last prophets. This is why Psalm 119 continues and wisely affirms: "Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble" Psalm 119:165.
The Psalm 119 in the Bible ultimately praises, either directly or as a suggestion, the fidelity to the law and the trust in the Lord, because common sense and the fullness of spiritual goods in the Old Testament depend on this. The validity of the teachings of Psalm 119 transcends time and is a constant inspiration for those who want to enter into true spirituality.
