World Cup Madness ⚽️ No escaping the festivities.

in #fifayesterday

It was nearly three years ago and I was watching Argentina win the World Cup while seated at my favorite taco joint - Che Taco with my youngest. I remember posting it but now that I look it was just a @dbuzz - post. In all the excitement, I did not take the time to make much of a story out of it.

Last night was the first match that involved Argentina and the shouts and long-winded Goooooallllll screams were in the air. (we won by the way)

Wo who would not want world cup cookies for the table when friends come over.

Even cookies are turned into a work of art.

This time around there is not much hype just yet because they're just starting the World Cup matches. My understanding is that there are not any eliminations going on as of yet. FYI $27,000 is about 18 dollars. It does not say if that includes all the cookies on the platter. Each cookie is a round Argentina flag.

I have never been much of a sports fan, although I will watch championships, Super Bowls, and World Series games. I am definitely enjoying all of the hype and decorations here down south though.

Back in 2013, Kentucky Fried Chicken made its debut here in Argentina. I was happy to see them when they did. I did miss the window of mashed potatoes and gravy. That menu item only lasted about three or four months. Gravy does not exist in Argentina, so they did not sell many of those.

Revive the taste of victory!

I stopped in for some popcorn chicken. I believe that's what it's called. I love their spicy sauce to dip them in.
Even the Colonel is printing special World Cup bags in anticipation of another win.

I only walked a few blocks and I found so many stores filled with light-blue and white balloons, pennants, banners, and triangular flags.

Here i s a typical 'mom & pop' empanada store. Check out the fan fare!

It was 19:00 when I passed by (7:00 p.m.) and nobody dare eat dinner until 9:00 p.m., though stores are learning that the expat population does get hungry earlier than the native born.

Normally, I might not even notice decorations related to national pride because the country does have a lot of 'spirit' in general. You kind of get used to it all. Then my American mind-set kicks in and I think about getting back to posting - snap a few - and start writing. Some of the posts that interest me the most are about 'every day things' that are mundane in other countries, to those that live there, but to us (people that do not live there) the photos, traditions and culture are amazing. I hope I brought you a few sights that would not be found where you are. Festive, fun and different.
