RE: What's the best way to earn an extra $1000/ month? And an SBI give away
Thats exactly how I used to travel PH, and also now like my expat life in Thailand, generally work out where the expats live and do the opposite! The amount of snobbery here just out of Bangkok when you do bump into the odd expat is hilarious as we look at each other suspiciously and attempt to greet each other in Thai as a sort of test! Mr Sociology would be able to write a doctorate thesis on it!
Where in Phils are you @fknmayhem ? I used to love wandering Mindanao by bus 10 years ago. Had many, many adventures. Amazing country, amazing people.
I love visiting home in Yorkshire for a few weeks a year and having a wander around Scotland , its amazing and I love the food but after a couple of weeks, Im ready to come home. SE Asia has felt like home since the minute I stepped off the plane on my first trip, which was to Laos in 2005. Im just at peace here
Mostly hang in Manila but often go to Davao, Cebu, and even expat paradise Dumaguete (different lifestyle there, they have a huge Mediterranean, Spanish way of living so it’s different from all expats on contracts). 3G is now ubiquitous workable so I’m anywhere and nowhere most of the time.
I occasionally hang with expat friends to “commiserate” over cultural differences and... errr efficiency. LOL
The skin color/bonus/obsession expats (can) have here in PH honestly annoys me. Then again many are here for shorter term or exactly because of that advantage.
You wouldn’t want the locals to know you speak Tagalog because you will be the next viral YouTube sensation for 3-5 days.
It’s a lovely escape from “First world related obligations”. I will probably return to Europe in some years but back to there where I left, back in 2010, a quiet village outside Paphos in Cyprus. It’s becoming too crowded here in SEA. Alternatively Morocco for some years.
I've heard sbout the skin whitening craze!
Sounds like a great country!
Another reason for wanting to stay UK is I love self-sufficiency and the seasonality of the UK climate.
I just want to settle down and plant an edible garden tbh!
