The term sports is the abbreviation of the English word disport meaning fun. The word disport comes from the ancient French word desport that has the same meaning. The ancient French word desport derives from the Latin deport, the composition of the word de , which means leaving, and bringing . So deporting means moving away, and taking this far is meant to get out of the city wall to do physical activity. The words desport and disport (later sports ) as said mean fun, word derived from the Latin verb divertere - which means get away .
