Kayak Fishing Off Gordon's Bay

Planning, What Planning?

My day started out as normal, messing around on Steemit and chatting to some friends, I had little planned except for an event at 7PM. Out of the blue I got a message from an old family friend, telling me he is in the are, has nothing to do and will be at my door in 15 minutes.. Well guess I have something to do today. We decided to try something that we have been putting off for quite a while, which was taking out the kayak for a paddle. This being our first time out on the kayak it was quite exiting and we didn't really know what to expect, so we prepared as best we could and got ready to set off on our adventure. First we needed to do a bit of dusting..

Having cleaned the kayak and packed what little equipment we had we were ready for departure. The kayak has a small wheel at the back and we were not too far away from the sea so we decided to be brave and pull it the 500m down to the sea. It ended up being quite a tiring and painful trip but we made it in one piece (sort of).

It floats! (Thank goodness)

After getting our equipment safely strapped in and setting off we were ready to see what the rest of the day had in store for us, with a quick selfie we sped off into the unknown.

Video or it didn't happen

Here is a short video of what we were up to during our adventure, sorry for the shaky cam and the incorrect date stamp. It will be rectified in future videos. As they say: "You can't polish a turd", well here is my attempt at making the best of the video footage we had. It didn't come out too bad for my first big-ish edit.

We found a lot of roses floating around strangely enough. Was it someone that rejected a the love of another, maybe an anniversary of someone that passed away, unfortunately we will never know..

My friend caught a fish and all I got was this lousy sunburn.

All in all it was a fun trip and we learned a lot, next time we will definitely be more prepared. My shoulders are stiff, the soles of my feet still raw from walking on the hot tar and my sunburnt legs are killing me, but I would do it all over if I have the chance. Sunblock is a must from now on :P.

Sunblock is indeed a must! Thanks for sharing!

I got the usual scolding from the wife, so guess I'll try and not forget it next time.

As long as you learn from your mistakes, all's good =D

Never been kayaking but sure looks like so much fun !!! Nice video too even if it’s shacky..hehe

Ill work a bit on the video, planning on getting a head strap for the GoPro.

@chr7is it looks like you had a whale of a time :). I've done a small bit of canoeing in the past, but you know, kayaking looks a lot more fun. Thank you.

Aahh man I'm jealous! I need to buy myself a Kayak! Hopefully I can save up some steemit money and get one soon :)

It was my first time out, I'm definitely going again. Will hopefully get some better footage next time.

Second. I'll try to be a little faster next time. Video isn't loading for some reason. Lol. .

Lol, at least you tried :P

Great weather and awesome photos. Looks like great fun

Wow, 500 meters from the sea, I love the sea! I'll take the sun burn any day 😎

Looks like fun!

The first time I was ever on water in a canoe (never a kayak) was on a river in rapids. The last time I was ever on water in a canoe was on a river in rapids.

Yes. It was the same trip. Yes, It did rain. Yes, we did tip the canoe. Yes, we did have to call for a pick up before we finished. Yes. We did say it was because of the lightning. But Yes there really was lightening. The tour company had actually been trying to reach us to get us off the water anyway.

Watching your video reminds me I still want to go out again in calmer waters ... with no rocks.

You did just fine with the spray paint on the cow patty. Did definitely make me feel jealous !! Okay and inspired.

Do you know in the country there's cow patty flinging contests and there's usually a polishing contest at about the same time?

No I've not attended one. It's not even on my bucket list :-)
